Whatever Happened To The Girl Raised By Monkeys?

Not everyone thinks the stories that Marina Chapman tells about her childhood are true. But if they actually are real claims, she had a childhood that mostly only exists in fables and fantasy stories.
Chapman claims that when she was five years old, she was kidnapped, left in a jungle, and raised by capuchin monkeys. Her life after getting out of the forest was apparently just as fantastical, so it’s understandable that some people don’t buy what she’s selling, even though she continues to stick to her story. Let’s take a look at whatever happened to Marina Chapman, the girl who was allegedly raised by monkeys.

If this story isn't true, the real story is something I probably don't want to hear. I'm glad she's alive. I'm glad she got out of Colombia during those terrible years, and I'm happy she has a family who loves her.

Cool story....but wouldn't it be better if in the end she used her monkey skills to track down the kidnappers, bite their faces off,and free the other children?

What's fascinating is that some criticism is based on the assumption that other humans would have been needed to show Marina how to do certain things, as if monkeys themselves are unaware of their surroundings sufficiently to serve as an example to her. I'm sure that since monkeys/primates in general are similar enough to humans, observing them (for lack of other humans nearby) could have been sufficient for her to survive. I'm not sure why that one critic assumed that the monkey was trying to drown her because I heard the full story from a different video - Marina ate a bunch of fruits from a tree the other monkeys seemed to be not interested in (maybe they knew it wasn't good to eat, like many other animals are aware of what to eat/not eat) and she was in pain after. That Grandfather monkey approached her after seeing all this and pushed her into the water (as if telling her to drink), made sure she drank some, after which she threw up the fruit. The monkey left after that. If it were trying to drown her, why wouldn't it be more aggressive? Also, altruistic behavior has been observed in many different mammals, so it's not farfetched to assume that the older monkey (having seen the same issue affect another monkey + being solved by inducing vomiting) did something to help her out

Considering many children HAVE been discovered in the wild adopted by various animals who did show mercy and helped them survive - even protecting them - I find her story easy to believe. The type of human cruelty she mentions does exist and makes her story more plausible in my opinion. Why make it all up with such misery involved? A good lie to mimic general narratives would be that she ran away from home or wandered too far away from civilization, got lost etc and THEN was raised by monkeys until she either chose to go back or was rescued. Instead we get a story of repetitive captures and repetitive escapes from different human predators who took advantage of her vulnerability. (In an area where human trafficking IS high) This to me makes her story appear more true. Regardless, animals can hold SO much compassion and welcome others as their kind. Adoption doesn’t seem a foreign concept to them. (Much like how we rescue animals and adopt them as our pets). The difference seems to be that if animals imprint on humans at an early enough age, a human will identify AS that animal and not as a human at all. (The feral children stories are aplenty) In Marina’s case, she knew what she was, but assimilation back into human culture (when all she’d known was cruelty), was a VERY turbulent process.

People that are often reported missing are not found later, even if they rejoin society especially if they're taken that young. She doesn't seem to remember her birth name, so it would make it very difficult to track her parents. Plus, forests are aplenty in Colombia, so unless she finds out where that forest is, she'll likely have a hard time finding out more about her parents (assuming they're still alive)

In another video, she said that they seemed to be fleeing from something. Forests are often patrolled to prevent poachers from poaching (she mentioned that later on she saw some humans come into the forest to steal animals), or maybe they got spooked by some other dangerous animal in the forest. She was illegally obtained, so it would make sense that they wouldn't want to be caught with her if it were the former scenario, and if it were the latter, they probably didn't care enough about her safety to rescue her as they fled.
