This phone is amazing, I was a Samsung user for over 10yrs and just switched from the note 20ultra. I haven't had any over heating issues however my Samsung used to get hot occasionally. The screen, sound quality is truly great.

Remember to update firmware. This phones firmware update will take quite some time. It will stabilize the phone quite a lot although you will still feel the phone a little warm. For the telephoto lens the quality is still yet to perfect. Likely they will come up firmware to it as well.

After losing my beloved LG phone in an Uber, I finally committed to buying an sony and got the 5 III and I actually love this phone now....I had LG's for many years and loved those so I have to learn the nuances of Sony phones but absolutely ready to pull the trigger on the Mark IV once it gets released. Hi WhatGear, Just wanted to ask you. Have you noticed any difference in Bluetooth sound quality and especially volume over the headphones between Xperia 1 IV and Xperia Pro i or Xperia 1 III? My Xperia 1 IV volume over Bluetooth headphones is lower than my Xperia Pro i or Xperia 1 III no matter what I do. It improved with last updates, but it is still not at the same level as previous Xperia models.

Can't I just split the screen similar to the Sony XZ1 pressing the box on the down right, hold it, and split the screen? Edit: Because I got a lot more questions: The Quick-Settings menu, these buttons look enourmous. Can't I have them smaller and fit more settings? On the Sony XZ1 the made i perfect, they're just little circles, I can fit Wifi, Bluetooth, Rotation, GPS, Flashlight, 4G with ease in one row, and on the second page, Stamina, Airplane, Recording, Data usage, and Screen Mirroring. Why Is it so bulky, can I shrink these icons somehow? Iam in the marked for a Sony 1 V, but not yet convinced If sony, like so often, went three stepfs forward but one backwards. Do the Apps from the Appstore adapt properly to the screen Ratio of 21:9? Only got a Sony XZ1, that got the original 16:9 screen, and sometimes apps are meant for "taller screens" and things get hidden outside the screen. Can you shoot a picture in 48 megapixels or does it always just do 12mp? This would be important to me, as I often make sort of "mental note- photos" for example in the museum, a big junk of text or something, or a painting with the name of the painter etc, and Its hard to read on my xz1 often, but it has 19mp, so I wonder if the new sony will hold up. (The camera on the xz1 is terrible in dim light, so that doesn't help either way)

Nice review. Is there any way of replacing that awful amateurish Google quick settings panel. On all my previous android phones ( samsung, htc, huawei etc, the quick settings icons are much smaller so you don’t need to faff around with that childish ui. Even current Samsung and Huawei, Honor and Xiaomi have a customised version. I briefly owned a Google Pixel because I want a really good camera phone but that had to go back because that quick settings panel is atrocious. It certainky can’t be regarded as an improvement on the previous android versions. Looks to me like its an attempt to copy apples awful ui.

Just got mine today. Screen resolution and refresh rate are constantly at top notch depending on your settings, but unless the app or user interface you're using is setup to look good at these settings, you'll notice semi-fuzzy icons if you look closely. KZbin/ Netflix/ Games etc. that are primed for these settings look amazing and the 4k really pops.

I'd recommend watching Sony camera (I.e. a6600) interface tutorial videos first. The camera settings work amazing if you're familiar with using sony's cameras. That being said, even basic mode isn't terrible. Try tapping "More" and scrolling down to "introduction to features" for tips on taking photos like you would from a Samsung or iPhone. A lot of the modes exist, but aren't in the same layout as most other phones.

You need to thank Samsung for the heater chip. But do remember to update firmware. It helps stabilize the phone as well as some thermal controlling.

@@bloodytoad2010 i dont see how this is relevant, the xperia 1 IV gives overheating warning and deactivate some features in places where temperature is less than 20°C... That s just taking pictures, not shootiing any videos. So yeah i blame Sony, not Samsung for shipping a product that does not operate correctly When Apple has a problem with TSMC because their chip does not operate according to specs, they find a solution, to make it work. if the CPU is the problem you make a better cooling system... Overheating problems seems also mostly related to Sony software

Take screen from 120hz on 60hz and no heat.And once on week turn off phone complitly and that is it.

From an audiophiles perspective: Dolby and DSEE are both just marketing buzz and dont actually make anything better. Dolby is basically just an eq profile to fake a larger soundstage and dsee doesnt make an audible difference at all unless you have extremely compressed files (im talking like sub 100 kb/s). Just leave these settings off because all they do is drain battery.

Yup, I returned my Xperia 1 mark 3 because of this overheating problem also! It's the processor 8 gen 1 that is to blame! Sadly no fixing problem except rooting the phone and downcloack the processors to 60 %.
