This is exactly why, when the car show comes to my town, they put up traffic barriers into the parking lot. Because people around here can't drive. They literally have a police escort stop traffic at the start and finish, because several years back some drunk asshole in a lifted pickup beast decided to pass someone by using the grass, dipped into the ditch, and went sailing into a row of parked cars.

Actually pretty sure all of them can be charged of dangerous driving, which means 1 year subscription to the Metro pass. In fact as salt on the wound I could imagine the Volvo only getting two cases of reckless driving. Red light and cutting off another car during a lane change. But prolonged, batshit dangerous behavior like denying another car from retreating from a wrong lane for several minutes are MUCH worse despite what circumstances the wayward car is to blame.

In the Netherlands cops just say "I pulled you over for..... and if you want I can show you the video." Next they write you a very expensive ticket for even minor infractions. Camping on the left lane : €240, Overtaking on the right side: €280, Not wearing a seatbelt: €280. But usually they also write you additional tickets so one police stop may cost you over €500.

It's based on income and on how nice the cops are, but usually if you make 3k eur month you get 1k ticket. But it can get pretty out of hand if youre super rich. Few years ago some1 got fined over 100k in a merc g 500.

In many locations right turns with green lights are synced to the left turn green arrow for the other road and so it’s not uncommon for a u turn person to have a conflict with a right turner. That said u turn person should have looked more carefully as well.

The green arrow is a "Protected Right" signal, meaning that you can turn right without stopping or yielding to anyone. The same way a protected left turn provides a safe passage of travel for left turning vehicles, the protected right turn provides the same for right turning vehicles. You will notice almost any intersection with this light set up prevents U-turns as it creates a conflict point within the intersection which fails to provide the protected right turn.

I think that it's one of those scenarios where when one side has the green arrow, the other side is completely red. From the cop's side it probably was a red light, but from the driver's side it was green.

The white van is also an indicator that his direction does not show the light's for the oncoming direction. The problem is if a court see's it his way and the person he pulls over has no dash cam, they'll be paying a bogus red light ticket. Not everyone has a dash cam so that's probably a very likely situation.

I think the green truck was allready inside intersection when it turned red.(though cut it pretty close to the point I find it hard to belive he couldn't have stopped the yellow at a reasonably pace, but those are the margins of traffic especially with large less responding vehicles) For the white truck: It's not really a matter of being courteous, entering an intersection on green without giving way for traffic allready inside to clear out, is a code violation.

This should be an opportunity to correct bad habits by officers, especially this "red light" incident. That officer was completely in the wrong.
