Leslie was a beautiful person having gone through more suffering than one could imagine. I cannot count the number of guitar players who revered Leslie and for good reason. His notes were as big as huge buildings. No one had that sound that the Great Fatsby concocted. One of the best bands live I have ever seen. WOOF!

@@terrylemonde7049 no Sunn sent Leslie the wrong amps. They sent him concert P.A. heads instead of guitar heads and he had to use the 4 channel P.A. heads for guitar because it's all he had.thats how he got the huge overdrive tone was cascading thru the Preamps of the head and overdriving it whit the master volume used for the final mix on the pa amp. That's the reason why amps now have a master volume and why many older jtm45 and superlead 100s have a master volume mod done on them. Hendrix did the same thing with the pre ps from a guild thunderbass amp and into his fuzz face, wha pedal then to the front of jumpered Marshalls

On the Avalanche tour, Corky Laing used to hit the cymbal and let it fly into the crowd, i caught one of his drumsticks with his name on it and have it to this day, it was fitting because i played drums as well. @@ruthparker1140 Corky had some wild moves, though... One was smashing a cymbal mid-song so it teetered like it was about to fall. Without missing beats he "reacted" to it in a funny way, then smashed it again so it landed back where it was. He sort of had a 'stick-launch-schtick', so the audience knew one was gonna fly. Never got a drumstick, but I was lucky to get the only pick that Leslie threw at the end of their set.

Nice work. Nice work !! Thing that seemed amiss was that Blood Of The Sun and Theme...were not recorded at Woodstock for Two. It was a later gig with Corky. Learned of this in the last few years. Album, fan since '71. The WS trax are here. I always wanted to play guitar. Leslie West and Tony Iommi got me started at 16 in '73, LW for lead work, TI for the riffs. Got good enough to do some party and bar gigs, last '05. Finally got to see Leslie at Winterland, '75. ha Elvin Bishop the head liner. We left after two songs from EB. Blown OUT by LW. Liked the mention of greats who loved Leslie West. One that was missed was Eddie Van Halen. When he got the Peavey 5150 stacks available, he sent a full stack to Leslie !!

In the mid 90's (96?) I saw Leslie West in a club called 'The Chestnut Cabaret' in Philadelphia, Pa. When I learned who his rhythm section was I thought, "Oh, man, this is going to suck" They where the bass player and drummer from 'Twisted Sister'. I couldn't have been more wrong!. They played for nearly 3 hours and kicked some serious butt. I wouldn't say they were as good as the original 'Mountain', but still a damn good show. I had seen Mountain in '72-'73 and got to shake hands with Corky and Leslie as they left the stage. Something I will always remember.

For me, Felix Pappalardi WAS Mountain, as all the songs penned or co-penned by him are by far the most appealing. Moreover, Pappalardi had a great and very distinctive vocal and bass playing style and a wonderful sense of melody. Although I appreciate what a good guitarist West was, I always found his vocals raucous and unappealing and In more recent times, when I've heard his live recreations of classics like "Nantucket Sleighride" , to me they just sound rough and unsatisfying.

Not clear about Corky Laing and when he joined Mountain . You state it was after Mountain played Woodstock . I've seen an interview with Corky Laing , here on youtube many years ago , he said he received a golden record for his performance at Woodstock with Mountain . He said he actually got two for playing at Woodstock : the second one for drumming for Ten Years After . Due to a technical error the drums had not been recorded , Laing was brought in to do the drums after the fact , which is no mean feat . First song of Mountain I ever heard was "Love is worth the blues " . Still have some LP's , "Mountain Climbing" was their best imo and I loved the improvisations on the live LP's . Saw West Bruce and Laing live on their European tour and still have their LP "Why Dontcha" . Leslie West prompted me to buy a '57 Les Paul Junior when given the chance , still have it ☺☺.

Corky didn't play at Woodstock. He got the gold because he wrote a song Mountain performed and the Ten years after jam. He officially joined about two weeks after Woodstock.

@@KaiserBlade If you are correct would means Corky lied in the interview . I regard that as highly unlikely . And what does "officially" mean ? That he joined earlier unofficially ? Muddy waters....

@@wolters1953 You misunderstood. I'm very good friends with Corky. He was not at Woodstock. The band played a song he wrote that got a gold record. Later he got one for his fill in drumming on Ten Years After ,Going Home. When he comes back from Finland I'll let him know you think he's a liar. I know he will be surprised to find out he really was at Woodstock. Thanks for clearing that up.

@@KaiserBlade Misunderstanding is possible , do not remember what he said literally . Have you looked at footage of the festival ? A link here can prove your point , right ? And , eh : no need to be sarcastic . Can we agree to differ as gentlemen , at least until you present proof in the matter ?

@@wolters1953 One more time. I've been friends with Corky for 12years I do stage prop work for him plus we're friends. Maybe he's lying to me and you do know more than both of us. Clearly that's not Corky on drums at Woodstock. Why don't YOU prove to me he was there?
