So, evangelicals, AME, Methodists, Lutherans, Anglicans, Baptists, Presbyterian, non denominational… name it… Protestant. "Leave your thoughts on the door like the real Martin Luther!" Martin Luther nailing his 95 reasons to a church door is credited with beginning the division in the Catholic Church. People who followed him became known is "Protestants" because, of course, they were protesting. That's a Cliffnotes version, anyway.

When MLK was talking about ringing ghandi up for tech support but he has a no bell prize. he was doing word play. The first phone was invented by alexander graham bell. he was also the first person to open a telephone company the bell telephone company which became the American Telephone & Telegraph Company. The timeline of the bell company is actually very interesting. its still going as of today. in MLK day it would be known as Bellsouth. The company is now known as AT&T.

Dhalsim is the Street Fighter II character that looks a little like Gandhi. Yeah, Martin Luther, the monk, nailed his 95 thesis on the door. "I'd ring you for tech support, but I got a Nobel prize," no bell, as in telephone. Pacific Bell is a huge telephone company back home in the States. Phones from their era would have had bells or a bell like sound for the ring tone. I'm glad you got around to watching this one. This one and the Jordan/Ali one are great!

The thing about the Martin Luther line is, even if you don't know of him, or his writing against the church, you probably know of the Protestant Reformation. That fight, both in war and behind closed doors, led to such a schism that groups who felt persecuted began leaving England and the surrounding areas in waves...to what we now call the United States of America. That's why there's so many damn churches in the northeast, you can barely walk a block in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and New York without passing either a catholic, Presbyterian, or methodist church even in the middle of nowhere. Also, remember your reaction to history of the entire world I guess? There was one part you were ROLLING about, when he says "Hey Sinners, you can now BUY your way out of hell for only..." cut then a picture of a man pops up and he says "that's stupid, such a scam, fuck this, fuck the church" that was Martin Luther!

When Ghandi said “I fought the caste system but still you cannot touch this.” In India, there is a caste system that they go by and the lowest caste is called the untouchables and that is where Ghandi grew up in; I believe the untouchables do the dirtiest manual jobs like cleaning canals and they are called untouchables because they do the dirtiest jobs and they are so dirty that people do not want to touch them.

He’s making a jab at how many Indians are employed in tech support by american companies. Martin Luther is credited with kicking off the protestant reformation when he nailed his theses on that door, which was a huge historical event still very much affecting the world today. I wouldn’t say it was an obscure reference…but then again, I did go to Catholic school. MLK’s whole philosophy about the power of nonviolent resistance was directly inspired by Ghandi. Great reaction! This is one of my favorite ERB. Ghandi’s last line is SO good!

I just came across this & enjoyed thoroughly as well as the comments. Rapping can be witty. This isn't a dissertation maybe an overview. There are regional dialects in the United States. People may spell a word the same but pronounce it differently (car, wash, potatoes, & creek etc.). I've gotten heck being corrected from some don't know. Example, Italian from where I come from is basically "I" talian, not "It"alian. Everywhere else says it the second way, even those from Italy (we say "It"aly not I taly). MLK studied Gandhi and used his 'civil' non-violence. The writers came up with a way to tease w/ the Potato, Potato of 2 people very similar in their beliefs. Everyone caught up with a lot of the words/lines. Which was fascinating & informative. It made me sad education has changed many aren't aware or care to learn historical facts on their own. I don't mean every single war or revolution. I mean overall of American Indians, women's rights, Marshall Islands bombings, Tuskegee Experiments, Henrietta Lacks, Edison creating the electric chair to spite Westinghouse, GM & tire manufacturers colluding with CA politicians to not install subways/commuter trains etc. Many Protestants are steeped in the bible but not familiar with how Protestants became. There's a little more to it, but it comes down to interpretations of the bible. It's the Potato/Potatoe etc. verses & interpretation. The Untouchables as commenters have stated are at the lowest. I didn't read all the comments so don't know if it's mentioned, example; India has outdoor bathrooms in groupings like have indoor men's/women's rooms. They are enclosed but may not have roofs. They were expected to clean up everything with limited supplies. MLK DID WIN A NOBEL PRIZE! (Peace Prize 1964) At the time was the youngest to ever win Prize money of $54,123 donated for the cause Gandhi was nominated 5xs but never won. Hence "No-bel" Controversy primarily involving politics, country tensions between India & UK along with pre-war II brewing within the world. Before next round of Nobel announcements, Gandhi was assassinated. BTW What's a Nobel Prize? Sweden's central bank established the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. Widely regarded as the most prestigious awards available in their respective fields. Five separate prizes (Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace) to "those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind." Peace - defined as 'to the person who has done the most or best to advance fellowship among nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies, and the establishment and promotion of peace congresses" Who's Nobel? He's the man that created Dynamite. He was a Swedish, chemist/engineer & industrialist. He became an arms manufacturer of dynamite, but also had over 355 patents used in war. He became extremely wealthy. He kinda had a 'Christmas Carol' moment. He read his obituary in the newspaper & shocked him (it was his brother's somehow accidentally switched names). It made him reflect & decided to write a will that created a foundation to establish annually a perpetual prize. Tidbits about Alexander Graham Bell -He was Canadian & a professor at Boston University -He was inventing the telephone to aim in communicating with the deaf. Both his mother & wife were hard-of-hearing/deaf. He as did Edison used the assistance of one man (Lewis Latimer) who was Black. He grew the device into a a full- fledged company. It also improved the product with ongoing R&D. 1982 Bell voluntarily broke up their company as it was being defined as a monopoly (Nowadays it would be Amazon or Microsoft). It was broken up into 7 pieces across the country. I loved the beef line play on words, as using beef in that manner means have grudge/issue with someone, and India value cows to be sacred they don't slaughter them.

Gandhi was whitewashed tbh. Here in South Africa, he fought not for equality but for Indian South Africans to be held at a higher standard than black South Africans pre-apartheid. He'd also constantly refer to black SAns as "kaffirs" (a derogatory term in SA similar to the n-word hard r). He was a nationalist more than a pacifist when it came to here.
