To be fair, it makes total sense. There's a reason compressors and their periphrials are measured in pressure per square inch. The pressure of the compressed air itself, along with the air expanding once it gets warmed up, results in a pretty decent amount of upward pressure against the top bucket, forcing it in the only direction it can go, which is up and away from the other bucket. And for those wondering why the air is cold inside the compressor, that's purely to do with the fact a compressor has a vacuum chamber inside, which is how the air is compressed down to the pressure it's rated for.

it's actually a lot more simpler than that - he is adding air to a limited space, when all available space is gone, the pressure just pushes the top bucket loose, kinda like over-inflating a balloon, eventually it pops, nothing to do with temperature of the air

I had the same issue a few times. I solved it by putting the lower bucket in a bigger bucket with hot water. The air between the two buckets warms up and expands. million dollar tip. Always put a tiny wood shim in between your buckets before you stack them. Now you dont have to lug around an air compressor to unstick your buckets. Your welcome.

If you lie the handle of the top bucket 90deg to the handle of the one below it they wont stick either.

Oh people that work on boats with a hot water barrel. With this problem. Put your buckets in the hot water for like 30sec to a min. They will come right apart.

This is because when the buckets get stuck, it creates a partial vacuum, and the air pressure from outside the bucket is pushing it in. However, with the air pump, you are filling in the partial vacuum, and even making the pressure higher than outside, allowing them to separate.
