Beno you are true inspiration. I started watching dieselducy's videos extremely in depth videos of elevators but after I saw your awesome simple lift tours I new I could pursue my hobby of elevator photography When I watch your videos I'm 1. Impressed that you go out of your way to find lifts in your area that are very risky to ride (like that fireman one, gotta have major melons to do that. 2. You find a substantial amount of lifts in lift tours. 3. Your video variety 4. Finally, your just plain charming personality All the greetings from the USA Vator hunters

the old lifts I call them Vampire lifts since one of my first exposure to an old otis was in a Vampire movie as a small child where the lift door opened on a Basement Level and a Vampire was trying to Charge into the lift and the Close door was taking forever to respond. a Long time ago i used to be afraid of These lifts for that reason i.e. if the building is old enough to have such old lifts it is old enough to be infested with vampires goons ghosts or whatever

first lift has been vandalized. speed is the best part. second lifts are very strange. fourth lift is very boring. x ray lift is the boss. lift at 7:02 is bit noisy too. lift 29 (their number) sounds neat. very important motors hide behind TWO doors. their lift motors are music :)

all the damn amazing OTIS with touch-sensitive OTIS Lexan fixtures have gone, NOO! What an unpleasant modernisation! Also I am so unbelieveably cross that typical 70s style OTIS touch-sensitive buttons lifts have been turned into lifts symbolising the opposite of what the 1970s are known as: From freedom towards UTMOST security hysteria. I cant believe it! Anyways, nice and entertaining video, too bad people have been in the motor room :(

The round and square touch-sensitive buttons bothe were launched in 1963, not the 1970ies. The technology (tubes) was introduced by Otis in the 1950ies with the Autotronic elevators. The buttons sometimes had problems with self-ignition at higher humidity in the air. Although stated differently on YT, they were not sensitive to heat. In case of fire they may be activated by dense fog and particulate matter in the air as this would change the electrical conductivity and thereby cause a "ground connection". (Same that would happen when you would touch a button and a circuit to ground is made via your body.) The principle is not comparable to touch-sensitive screens by any means. I'm planning to do a demonstration-video on real Otis-fixtures this year.
@PostTower11 жыл бұрын
ELEVATORMUSEUM very interesting fact many people so as I dont know about! It would be nice to see that being explained in one of your videos. I am really interested in how this technology works and what exactly makes the buttons recognise a call.
@ELEVATORMUSEUM11 жыл бұрын
Just got two power-supplies that are suitable for a test. The tubes need two currencies at the same time: 135V DC and 150V AC. I'm very excited to see whether I can bring them to work properly on "lab-scale". If it works, I'd like to apply heat and steam in order to check sensitivity to the specific conditions occuring during a fire. (Not sure yet how I will do.)

ELEVATORMUSEUM Actually, Otis first made touch sensitive elevator buttons in 1948, according to a vintage Otis ad.
