Whats in the box? (A look in a competition anglers tackle box.)

Have you ever wondered what the competition anglers have in those huge tackle boxes? In this video I give a guided tour of my own box and how I have it set out. It covers the contents of the box and the reason that it’s in there. I hope you find it useful.

Hi Tom, I had the inserts for the vase designed and made by Andrew Barrowman. He also supplied the box, I simply sent him one of my reels and some other bits and bobs and he squared it all away. You can find him on FB.

Always interesting to look through another anglers tackle - thanks for sharing Lindsay! Being an non-comp angler and just getting started (with a limited budget) if you were limited to 4 lines (fishing from an anchored boat), what would you choose? For weight-forward lines what length of head do you recommend? Cheers!

If I was starting over, I would have a 1. Floater 2. Midge Tip 3. DI3 4. DI7 you can get by with these and it would cover most scenarios.

That looks super organized. I currently have ten different fly lines: floater, midge tip, slow glass, Cortland blue, fast glass, di3, di5, di7, di3 sweep and di5 sweep. What other fly lines would you recommend I use? Many thanks, John

Hi John, you seem to have most eventualities covered I would add the DI7 and DI8 comp lines to what you have and if you are feeling flush get the Airflo slow tip.

@@totallycrit696 The DI7 Comp is a longer line which means if you can cast further you can get more depth from a drifting boat.

Hi Slick, Currently Hardy Demon reels and spools. I like the cassette type reels as the spools are very cheap. When you are carrying a lot of different lines it is worth considering.

Hi Lindsay, that was really interesting. I fished competitively up until about 1990 and wow your gear is so much far improved. I have friends who fish competitively and they have their own set ups. One question though, how do you cut out the foam so well for spools, watch etc? Regards Jim

Hi Jim, the box was a present from my wife. It was custom made for me by a lad in Aberdeen called Andrew Barrowman. I believe it was done with laser cutting tools. He is on FB if you were interested in having one done.

The Celtic curse. Factor 50 at least slows the transition from pale blue to white to pale pink to glow in the dark red. Or in extreme case vampire on the surface of the sun charcoal. Seriously the sun reflected off the water sunscreen is as vital as eye protection. On the bank it is bad, ten times worse when in a boat. When a newbie first starts the day even if under a overcast sky. I always council that it makes the difference between a safe and good day. Or? Rather than ending up like a gremlin in a microwave!

@@lindsayiflyfish Sunstroke is definitely not to be underestimated. When that light is reflected back off the water. It is almost like the angler is tinder under a magnifying glass. Sunscreen eye protection hat and plenty of fluids. Are must have items. One piece of good news for you. A scientist has successfully merged locust and piranha dna into the highland midge. It has made them soo less ravenous and less annoying lol
