Those desiccant beads are a Zeolite activated alumina molecular sieve commonly known as XH7. Those are generally used for drying R134a based refrigerants with polyalkylene glycol oils. They're used a lot of vehicular A/C systems worldwide.

Nice and thanks for sharing. I'd probably just have used a hacksaw but appreciate the lathe work,

Nice video! I have 2 questions: Can you find out or know which port has the filter? Is that on the inlet or outlet? And I was curious if that filter presses in like orifice tubes do, and if it is snapped in too tight or possible to extract on an intact dryer? (Can you try to pull it/push it out from the 'top' if it's still handy?) I don't have opportunity (or a lathe for that matter! LOL) to do this myself, do you still have the pieces? If you don't have it anymore, I can figure it out from the video and the car. I noticed that the fitting bolt hole off to one side, so looking at the 'front' with the bolt at 12 o'clock, filtered hole is at 9 o'clock and open port is at 3 o'clock. (Is this a car you have and can look at?) Incidentally, I don't know what I will do with this anyway, I suppose one would not find a replacement filter anyway. I guess sometimes it is just nice to be able to remove and inspect things instead of guessing as to what has and has not been contaminated. If clean, I could assume the system isn't fouled after a compressor replacement previously, by a third party. Mr KL

On a reusable drier for a safe, green has moisture and white doesn’t, maybe it’s the same there?

Hi brother thanks for your videos I'm a subscriber. Question please... I have a 1995 Lexus LS 400. The radiator fan is not activating. It does work because i tested it. I disconnected the connector that's connected to the ac receiver drier and the radiator fan turns on and stays on continuously the whole time. But when I reconnect the connector the radiator fan turns off. I'm trying to fix the fan so that it turns on when I turn on my air conditioner but the fan does not turn on when I turn on the AC. I feel like it has something to do with that connection but I'm not sure. Do you think I might have a bad sensor that's connected to the receiver drier? Thanks. Anybody knowledgeable please reply soon.

If you email me I can send you the diagram so you can get an idea of how it is wiring.

@@737mechanic im not good at wiring. The ac works fine. The fan works too when i power it straight to the battery, but the radiator fan does not turn on unless i disconnect the ac receiver drier connector thats connected to the sensor that sits on top of the ac receiver drier. 😔

Any idea what kind of Desiccant they use? Thinking about making my own AC dryer.

Whatever for?? They are only about $20 complete, and ready to go with fittings, etc. You would also have to add screens and containment pads compatible with refrigerant AND the oil. You can get a generic prefab filter dryers from any HVAC supplier, They come in all sizes and for various refrigerants. (Looks like an inline fuel filter). Just check the filter specs for your refrigerant and oil. Pick one that matches. They are commonly added as an additional filter after a compressor replacement on commercial AC unit. (Run them a while, cut them out and braze in another, until unit is clean. As I understand it...) You can get them with solder/braze or SAE flare. Keep in mind car AC systems are 2 to 3 tons, so get a filter dryer that will handle the flow without restriction or blowout. (filter bag bursting, beads retention rupturing and beads flowing into the system). Good luck, curious what you are planning... Mr KL
