you should have just enough power to run 2 motors both 6 hp (6hpx0.75 =4.5 kw x 1000 = 4500w). In my country, we have 220v 50hz @ 10-16-20-25 amps. 25x220=5500w 20x=4400w. two 6hp motors running 4500 watts could be done on seperate phases.

First time someone mentions what happens to the Nitrogen that is filtered out.....I have watched a few videos on the workings of the oxygen concentrators and I am always left asking "what happens to the Nitrogen?". Where does it go? It would have been nice if you explained it properly for dummies like me to understand....!
@iPadtutorial99ROBLOX

You explained how it absorbs nitrogen pretty accuratley. When its running at a higher pressure than atmospheric, the sieves trap nitrogen while letting oxygen to pass through and out the exit valve. Once the zeolites are full of nitrogen and its starting to pass less pressure through, it's switched to the other bed while the full bed is depressurizing out the nitrogen.
@tablet4327
@tablet4327 5 жыл бұрын
The gases are preferentially adsorbed onto the surface of the zeolite, rather than absorbed like a sponge. Really enjoyed seeing inside this machine and remember to thoroughly degrease any high pressure oxygen lines and joints or at least get it on video when it pops :)

Biomedical equipment tech for 18 years worked on almost every brand and model of concentrator. I think the compressor in this may be made by Invacare it looks a little different than any Thomas or Gast compressor I am used to seeing. Common compressors like that are model 2650 and 2660 I built an air compressor for the garage with one and I love it. Its so quiet. Thanks for showing the homefill unit I never had one come thru the shop, I was only aware of there existence. I wish I could have worked on one.

EDIT: are you sure it doesnt use _Pressure swing adsorption?_ (you said it offgasses with time, but PSA is when the offgassing happens when the pressure is released.

If you had multiple O2 concentrators you could feed the exhaust of one to the intake of the next, and so on, then the last one doesn't collect any O2, but its exhaust should be pretty good nitrogen, which perhaps could be collected in another high pressure compressor. Then you could do exciting nitrogen things!

Sure would like to find a two way connector before I break off the hose connector.

BMET here. Been about 15 years since I've worked on one of those. IIRC, you will have O2 percentage fluctuations as the filters get saturated, and it switches back and forth. I don't ever recall getting more than 96-97 percent on a meter. Can't remember what the lower limit is, keep thinking 94ish, but don't quote me, going off memory, and don't have the tech manuals in front of me. But for a small concentrator, with its flow rate, that's not bad at all.

+ElementalMaker Hey you probably already know this, at least I hope you do, but you don't fill scuba tanks with pure O2. You can get oxygen poisoning. It's just compressed air. If I recall you only use Pure O2 canisters for helping stave off the bends by using it at surface level if you came up too fast, or using it to refresh your body if you're going down again in quick succession of your first dive.
@ElementalMaker

I got a larger version of a concentrator from a glass blowing shop for around $350. They marked it as being modified for non-medical use, though I was never able to determine what that entailed. From what I understand it puts out around 85% O2, probably modified to put out a higher flow rate at a lower purity since it can really pump a serious gas volume, as well as removing any fancy filters. Wouldn't really suggest using it with propane, the amount of gas volume required for a complete burn is much higher with propane, and it burns at a lower temperature.

Awesome video!! I just discovered your channel. A multi-stage compressor never even occurred to me. And to be honest, It's hard for me to imagine how it actually works. But without having seen one until now, I do know that they are possible for another reason. I have an oxygen concentrator that then uses a second compressor and makes liquid oxygen from it. The liquefier compressor is no bigger than a fridge compressor and it makes liquid oxygen! So, if you think about it, you could take some of that LOX and trap it in a container and close it off. There you go, SUPER high pressure... probably an explosion if you don't know what you're doing but that's another "round-about" way of achieving high (VERY HIGH) pressures with a small compressor. It's less work over a longer time.

In static adsorption at 25°C, the zeolite took up more N2 than O2. Conversely, for short adsorption times, the carbon sieve took up more O2 than N2. This behavior was reflected when air was passed through adsorbent beds. For the zeolite, enriched O2 was recovered in the outlet; for carbon, enriched N2 was recovered. Possibilities for improving the performance of the carbon sieve are discussed.

@ElementalMaker
@ElementalMaker 5 жыл бұрын
Homes have far too much air volume and aren't sealed well enough for an O2 concentrator to fill a room with nitrogen gas. It would have to be pumped in at an alarming rate to displace all the O2 in a room. Also the human body doesn't use all the oxygen we breathe in, so some will be added back into the room from the user's exhalation.

@@ElementalMaker Tks for replying. Well to be honest I have a completely different understanding how that concentrator you were disassembling works. To put it simply it's just an air concentrator - it concentrates the air to manufacture a concentrated gas stream that is called oxygen. There's no nitrogen there at all.

I would like to see what kind of cut you can make on steel if you can cut it at all. I'm a journeyman welder and we were taught in first year that you require O2 to be at least 99% pure to get a good cut. Your O2 is, as you said, about 94% pure and it would be nice to see if it actually oxidizes the steel completely or if it just blows molten partially oxidized steel out of the way.

A 5 lpm machine like he has with fresh sieves makes 99+% pure oxygen. I say 99+ because my medical oxygen concentration meter stops at 99%. I make neon signs and artwork and I have 5 10 lpm, 22 psi concentrators in my studio. One for each of my major fires and the 5th one for all my small fires such as the tipping torch. I bought refurbished machines that cost between $300 and $600, depending on the rebuilder and the year. Like everything else, the price of concentrators has risen sharply under the biden economic debacle.

You would only need the compressor. I'm not an expert, but I think you would have to disable/bypass the oxygen sensor allowing it to pump standard atmospheric air. You would also have to prefilter the air otherwise dust would probably kill the compressor in short order.

Could use waste heat from hydrogen for a pre-heat water heater, or just burn for heat with humidity. Maybe run oxygen over a heat filament, even a tungsten-halogen bulb (quartz) to preclude H getting into the O. Pure hydrogen burns smoothly in a proper flow system. Thanks.

good vid. I work with pressure swing absorption (PSA) to generate N2, well remove oxygen... You might be able to make your own dewar flask. Cody did a video on that, but he used a vacuum pump, then welded the inner and outer layers together. A possible (simpler) alternative to that would be to put some water between the two layers, then heat them to boiling so the steam displaces the air. You could then weld or glue the two layers to seal in the water vapor. When the steam cools, the vapor will condense into only a few mL of liquid water leaving a decent vacuum between the layers. Upon adding liquid nitrogen or oxygen, the remaining water vapor will condense on the inner layer and freeze, resulting in a really hard vacuum (microtorr). Also, I've been wondering whether you could make a thermic lance using aluminum tubing with pure oxygen. Nighthawk has a video on that using iron/steel tubing, but if you could do that with aluminum tubing it might be really cool. It would also create a really fine aluminum oxide smoke, which might be useful in its own right (like vapor deposition).
@ElementalMaker

I actually did make one a long time ago, but the issue is nobody will fill a homemade dewar with liquid nitrogen. Needs to be a commercially made one for the local gas suppliers to even look at it.
