Thank you for the great video! I am glad to hear that you are recovering well from your back injury. I recently did Manganese phosphating on some small parts, with good results using DuraCoat solution. I have two questions relative to the process you demonstrated: 1) what would be the benefit of using Nickel Nitrate (or what is the negative effect of not using it)? 2) if I want to try with Nickel Nitrate, how much of it should I add to the solution? I saw that someone else asked the second question, so we would appreciate your response. Thank you!

ElementalMaker If it is crushed not in a ball mill, but, for example, in mortars, then such a powder is safe to store in a jar and you should not expect danger with oxygen when opening it, for example, after a month? Perhaps you need to add charcoal to reduce the reaction? It's just that I don't understand if its small particles are dangerous during storage or when they are crushed, for example, in a mill?

In my experience AN is a terrible oxidizer as it is hygroscopic and also prone to spontaneous reaction with aluminum, boric acid can prevent this but its not worth even making IMO. KClO4 and Al makes for the best flash from my experience in pyrotechnics.

Mill that aluminum in rock tumbler with steel balls for about a month.. okay, I have only slow tumbler, 40 RPM, that is why whole month. And it self ignite after exposing to the air (documented on my channel). Usually one should open barrel periodically to passivate the Al powder. For thermite, 30 micron particles are okay, but put small heap of super fine aluminum on top and ignite, this will help starting thermite reaction (also documented).

With these videos being so popular, I'm surprised you don't have videos on other ways to make (and purify) nitric acid. Not everyone can just order it in the mail or go to a local chemical supply store to get it and it's one of the most useful substances in the world. The uses are endless.

@@ElementalMaker True. I think this is one of the best videos for sure. Amazing how simple it is, yet countries would literally try to ban people from having it. I can only imagine the damage they've caused to science and progress. Beyond Ballistics made a similar solution, using far more commonly available sodium carbonate (saying you can use sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydroxide instead, though with somewhat different proportions), which also worked about as well as evaporust ...though he made the solution with a pH of four, for whatever reason, though I imagine you could use a greater proportion of sodium carbonate, to make it more neutral.

I like Molasses used to bait Dear at $8 per gallon 1part to 9 parts water, 3-4 weeks and rust turnes to silt like in a river. Chelating effects: Chelating derives from the Latin word chele, meaning claw. The pincer shaped molecules at work here are shaped somewhat like a Dungeness crab claw. The molecules can form several bonds to a single metal ion which contains cyclic hydroxamic acids which, in turn, bind with rust making it water-soluble. Larger amounts of these cyclic hydroxamic acids are found in molasses derived from sugar beet rather than cane. Plants and microbes appear to use the same chelation bacteria/chemicals to remove rust, robbing oxygen from the iron oxide.

Aluminum is a neurotoxin. Most definitely avoid inhaling, or eye contact. Wash your hands with cold water and soap. Warm or hot water will open your pores. Years ago, like in the late 60's there was testing of patients with alzhiemers, and researchers found a higher level of aluminum in their blood than with healthy people. For awhile there was not an aluminum cooking product available, but due to peoples short term memory, it slowly started to appear, until it was back in full production. It is still up for debate, as to whether Aluminum is as bad or worse than Mercury as a neurotoxin. Either one can cause brain malfunction, of the nervous system, including mortor response, and other mental disorders, like memory loss, and all the other wonderful mental issues that are becoming more and more common, due to our wonderful government allowing harmful substances in our food, and cooking devices. As an example. look up a chemical called "Ractopamine". It is most notably in Ham. The Chinese own the majority of pork producers. Ractopamine is banned in 186 countries, including China! But it is allowed in America. There is a high abundance of non neccessary chemicals in our foods, that are allowed in America, but banned in Europe, and the far east! Amazing the power of just a little Palm Grease!.😉😉 nudge, nudge.
