Whats the BEST way? How to upscale images in Photoshop (Photos, Ai Art & Lineart)

Hello, im trying to upscale some anime wallpapers to have them printed in a3 size from a regular printer. Could u tell me what i could best do to do this? Shall I use image size and set it to a3 dimensions? or should i really go for gigapixel? i dont know what is appropraite for a3, since some of the wallpapers are already 4k, but some are really terrible screenshots (original wallpaper was deleted)

Gigapixel changed the eye iris colour from green to brown.

I didn't notice! It is only a slight change tho, easily fixed with an adjustment layer - there's always some give and take with upscaling

all good, but 72dpi? you never mentioned dpi.

Dpi in bitmap images translates to pixels per inch - so a 3000x3000pixel image is 300dpi at 10x10inches printed - but the same.size image is 150 dpi at 20x20inches. I hope that makes sense. The reading isnt necessary and confuses people.

Technically yes, however AI think Instagram itself shrinks the images down to 1080px wide.

I’m confused how these are able to print well if they are still 72 dpi. Yeah they’re bigger but the resolution is still 72. I’m not understanding

Well if it helps, no image has a dpi reading without a print size to accompany it. It literally is 'dots per inch' or 'pixels per inch' really. A 300x300px image is 300dpi at 1x1 inch - but its 150dpi at 2x2inches. I hope that makes sense. The dpi measure attached to an image file is actually just confusing for most people. It comes down to pixel resolution and how many pixels an i.age equates to for every inch of print. I hope that helps

I didn't notice, but sometimes the AI does do weird stuff. It's still the best option, the newer recovery mode may fix that issue
