this is what worked for me i was getting the error: you recently connected blah blah blah..... after finding no useful solutions on the internet i did this: remove the sim from the phone that im installing the whatsapp on then place the sim in another phone thats compatible with your local network( note: my sim worked perfectly well in my unlocked phone that i was trying to install the whatsapp on, both calls and sms) then try verifying whatsapp on the device in question again it may take 2 or 3 attempts and you will get the verification code by call after that return the sim card to the phone and you are good to go

I doesn't work for me. Not only I don't get the verification code, but after I entered my number, the screen still stayed the same and no message was sent to me. When I used another phone and entered my current on the other phone, yhey sent the code right away on my current phone, which I used on the other phone. I don't know why I couldn't get to the screen where i can enter the code on my current phone. Can anybody help me?

This was the same problem on my phone but the fix was different. I had to allow sms permission on the Google play app.

Nothing works for android. Not one tutorial from the whole internet. This situation is beyond frustration. Wrote to whatsapp tech support, received only automatic response with some basic instruction ! WhatsApp is the lamest smartphone app, since the beginning. Those guys should be banned from public usage.
