This song was great in studio but this version is fantastic. This drummer is really awesome. Wonder who he is.

Remember Ray speaking a bit about them at gigs & interviews, this Chicago boy can relate;from wikipedia~Twin brothers Ronald "Ronnie" Kray(24 October 1933 - 17 March 1995) and Reginald "Reggie" Kray (24 October 1933 - 1 October 2000) were English gangsters who were the foremost perpetrators of organised crime in the East End of London during the 1950s and 1960s. With their gang, the Firm, the Krays were involved in armed robberies, arson, protection rackets, assaults and the murders of Jack "the Hat" McVitie and George Cornell. As West End nightclub owners, they mixed with politicians and prominent entertainers such as Diana Dors, Frank Sinatra, and Judy Garland. The Krays were much feared within their social environment; in the 1960s, they became celebrities, being photographed by David Bailey and interviewed on television. They were arrested on 8 May 1968 and convicted in 1969, by the efforts of detectives led by Detective Superintendent Leonard "Nipper" Read. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment. Ronnie remained in Broadmoor Hospital until his death on 17 March 1995; Reggie was released from prison on compassionate grounds in August 2000, eight weeks before his death from cancer.

One of the greatest songs i n the past 20 years..that no one ever heard. Who are The KRAY TWINS? USA doesnt know them..

Piggy-Pike-Music-Like Yes, Mr. Davies is an under-appreciated talent, and few people in the US would get the references in the song, unless they might have seen the parody of the twins on the Monty Python series, with Dinsdale and Doug Pirahna. Hopefully the upcoming box set of remastered tapes by the early Kinks will change perceptions a bit for the better.

kringles Paul In the minority..but glad you are in the know. But ask todays pop stars who ANY of the people Mr Davies makes reference to (besides Dickens) and you are going to have some blank stares out of T Swift, Katy perry and the like. They just do not know. But the interner did allow me to check up on many of the names in the song I did not recognize on first listen.

Piggy-Pike yes very embarrassing what we have here in the States i.e. Swift, Perry and many more non talents. I pretty much only listen to music out of the UK. I have been that way all of my life.

kringles Paul It's all about making money now for all hands involved in a "song". Writing from an intellectual or artistic point of view is basically only for very small audiences. I heard David Gilmour say in an interview regarding purposely having to write a "commercial" song "We expect that now from the American record companies but there are now those in the UK that are going that way. All in all I think its a great time to get OUT of music".

Was anyone on this stage other than Ray born in London?
