Nah I was picky before hearing of dating apps. The dating app options exist because people are so picky and it makes it available at the fingertips. When people learn about what options are out there, they curate their taste. You get that just from meeting people in school, work, and being about shopping. I'd say society encouraging diversity and acceptance of uniqueness over conformity is what sparked people being picky simply because it caused more variety to be available.

The average guy may get a few matches a week, the average woman probably gets 20+ easily so they can just play the field and explore options constantly without ever taking the time to really get to know any of them. true but it's done on both sides and both sides will have some people who aren't picky as long as their personal time is respected and they aren't mistreated. They just want companionship and intimacy. Then you'll have the player group that just runs multiple guys or gals (or both) for hookups or multiple relationships on the side. It is what it is, unfortunately. The upside is there is so much diversity so there is someone for everyone, even if it means unexpected compromises, and it's easier to come across them.
