Lance Oster I'll tell you, I worked at fast food. The top is a bunch of electronics for the touch screen, the bottom is where you put the "flavors" it's all syrup. In the back there are tubes that lead down to the basement for the water and the "freestyle sweetener". I got you with a tip to open the machine tap on Coca Cola and the logo will be on the top right and tap it three times the bottom will open and you can see what's inside

Traffic signal technician here, I’d be happy to answer any questions you may still have. As far as the green light is concerned, yes the lenses is blue, and as others have guessed, it is because the light bulb puts off a yellowish light. It has nothing to do with colorblind, the order of the colors is standardized for that. The inside of an LED traffic light is pretty similar. The LED combines the lens, reflector, bulb and socket into one piece. The lens on a green led is actually green though, since the LED put out the pure color. Another question I get frequently is about the arrows, on this style light the lens would be painted to only allow the arrow to show. On LED lights the LEDs are simply arranged in an arrow and the lens will look the same as the solid round light.

I think the incandescent yellow light bulb mix with the blue and makes it very green when it's on. If the glass was green the light would be kinda yellow. This is a very random guess, I don't even know what I'm talking about.

That's a good theory but it's not the reason. It's due to the large number of red/green colorblind people. Eight percent of men and half a percent of women have some type of color blindness. Having true red and true green on a traffic light could create a dangerous situation. Turquoise is used instead of green because red/green colorblind people can generally distinguish between the two.

It's a good theory but no. You don't want true green on traffic lights. With 8.5% of the population colorblind, it's important to shift the green to a turquoise color so that red/green colorblind drivers can distinguish between the lights.

Some areas (like Alberta, Canada) have the Traffic Lights mounted horizontally on not vertically. If a colour blind person has never seen that setup before, they would not know if the left or right light is red/green.

Most traffic signal lights today are LED. The LED technology is used in all new signal heads and the older incandescent signal heads can be retrofitted with LED modules that usually requires removal of incandescent bulb, reflector unit and colored glass lens. A new LED unit roughly the same size as the old incandescent reflector unit is fitted into the door frame of the glass lens, then it is connected to power wires coming into signal head. One of the problems with the LED modules is they don’t give off as much heat as the incandescent signal heads which can cause problems on signal units in cold snowy areas because if the snow is falling hard enough, the signal lens can become covered in snow not allowing the signal to emit light.

Actually 421Frickit, I don't know where you're from but your city council is wasting money. The vast majority of traffic signals are assembled using white LED circuit boards covered by a colored lens. Having three different colored circuit boards can be confusing as they all look the same without power running through them. So in the warehouse you could easily mix up red boards with yellow or green. But I say your city is wasting money because buying 900 white led circuit boards is usually cheaper due to bulk discounts than buying 300 green, 300 yellow, and 300 red.

"640 L" refers to the number of lumens (brightness) the lightbulb is capable of. Fun fact: the bulbs inside red lights need to be brighter than the bulbs inside green and amber lights, because in order to get a pure red, the lens must have a very dark tint, otherwise the red light would look pink. So a brighter bulb has to be in the red light. At least that is the case with older incandescent traffic signals, the newer LED signals don't have this problem.

Although you may not perceive it, “white” light can give off different colors. This coloring of the light is known as color temperature, which is measured in degrees Kelvin. There’s a detailed article about color temperature on Wikipedia if you’d like to learn more. For example, a common household light bulb may have a color temperature of 2400K (more of a yellow) but the light hitting you on a cloudy day might have a color temperature of 6500K (more of a blue). This is more perceptible if you take an outdoor photo using the indoor setting. The photo looks REALLY blue because the camera thinks the overall lighting is not what it expected and has compensated for the difference incorrectly. If you recall your days of finger painting in nursery school (who doesn’t?!) you’ll remember that yellow (representing the bulb) and blue (the lens) makes green (observed light output). Going back to the blue color of outdoor light, this will compound the appearance of your lens and it will look even MORE blue. Because incandescent bulbs give off that warm, yellowish color, a slight correction has to be made. A bit of blue tint is added to the lens, making the light you see appear green when illuminated by the yellowish bulb.

That's actually VERY close to what they described. Remote controls use IR LEDs (Infrared). The trick is making the light flash fast enough and in the proper pattern. There are actually devices you can buy and install into your car to accomplish this. But they're highly illegal in the vast majority of municipalities.

The yellow, or "Amber", signal has the terminal block. That's where you would put the bulb wires and connect the signal to another wiring loom, and that loom would connect to the Traffic Signal Control Box through the pole.

the green light is bluey-green because a non-LED type bulb burns with a yellow-white light not a pure white light, so they tint the lens slightly blue to compensate providing a fully green colour upon illumination. (yellow+blue=green) this originally comes from old time flame-lit railway signals where the lens was even bluer than the ones on traffic lights to compensate further as a flame burns yellower still than a bulb.
