Neal Ramsey , No one said they were big than GM or Ford. Because of their stock values they are more valuable than GM or Ford. They do make twice the profit per car than GM or Ford. However they spend all that profit and more to continue their unprecedented growth.

@slorolla1129
@slorolla1129 7 жыл бұрын
Bizzo Brigante ok if you drive a car with gasoline you're going to loose miles on it too. a car doesn't stay at 270 mile range. maybe he was driving far and there was no tesla charge stations. and he said he didn't know you loose 2-5% of battery a day without using it. grow up man
@bizzobrigante1588
@bizzobrigante1588 7 жыл бұрын
If you are going on a trip with a plane you certainly don't leave a car on a 30 miles radius and go away for 10 days and expect battery to stay on the same level after returning back?! For instance he could quick charge a car for a hour or two before the trip and he would still have at least 140 miles radius! I understand the analogy with cars using gasoline but this comparison is foolish! The proper comparison would be to compare a Tesla car with a electronic device like smartphone or laptop that has gone in standby or hibernation and still using some portion of the battery capacity. ( You understand that this is actually what a "huge electronic device" like a Tesla car is doing when is not in the drive mode? ) Btw. You said grow up? I should say smart up! :-)

Dan, actually phones will still discharge over time. It could take weeks but it will still discharge even when off. Being the Tesla has a secondary battery that maintains the system the system when the car is off I would have to assume the cars main batteries have no draw when the car is off but they can still suffer from passive discharge. The big question is why the secondary battery which I suspect is just a standard car battery discharged in 4 days. Its possible that battery was at the end of its life. The car is a few years old isn't it. Most standard 12V car batteries wear out over time and lose their ability to hold a charge although I would have expected that Tesla designed a monitoring system into the Tesla to monitor the secondary batteries performance and life so I would expect that you would have had some sort of warning on the dash well advance of the incident suggesting service and replacement for that battery.

Lithium batteries actually hold their charge well so there's no excuse for such a high vampire current draw.

On average, the Battery discharges at a rate of 1% per day. Situations can arise in which you must leave Model S unplugged for an extended period of time (for example, at an airport when traveling). In these situations, keep the 1% in mind to ensure that you leave the Battery with a sufficient charge level. For example, over a two week period (14 days), the Battery discharges by approximately 14%" Its in the manual ..... baaahhhhhh!!!!!

This is a common problem in vintage and older petrol/diesel cars as well, the batteries eventually die if the car is left and no charge is being produced. My family collect vintage vehicles and we have to run them at least every 3 months for an extended period of time, over wise we have to jump start or the battery degrades. This also affects newer cars when left for a long period of time, only these types of cars can just be left running in a driveway to recharge the battery, and don't need to actually be driven in order to keep the charge up. The more you know...

Yes all batteries self-discarge, however there is a gigantic difference between 1/4 of a year and 4 days. And so we are clear the LiIon batteries Tesla uses have one of the slowest self-discharges, if the car was really off it should only have 2% discharge per month, and he lost 11% in 4 days making it 38x faster then any regular discharge. Meaning they don't really turn the car off so you constantly risk fancy computers running your batteries into the ground.

it's because there is a high tech computer inside the car that's why the screen is there and remember it updates like an iPhone so that's why it's using 5% of your battery a normal car dosnt have all of that to keep updating and checking while it's off

Folks, if you like peace of mind about your battery (longevity & safety), for years to come, just charge your EV between 30% - 70% (and do 90% - 100% when going for a long Road Trip). (I own Tesla S & X, and I'm an Electrical Engineer) * High temperatures kill batteries. If you go on a holiday/vacation during the summer, leave your vehicle at a low SOC (state of charge). For example, at or below 30% SOC * Cycle within a narrow SOC range. For example: 40-60% rather than 10-80%. The cathode expands and contracts in a wider SOC range, which causes it to break apart. * On that note: The lower the narrower the SOC range, the better. That means charging frequently. * Avoid charging the vehicle above 75% SOC. Above 75% side reactions start occuring that cause degradation. This also reduces the volume expansion issues mentioned * Taking all variables into account, operating between 45-70% SOC, and storage at ~30% is ideal. * Occasional high SOC and wide SOC range are okay! For example, the occasional road trip. * With good thermal management hardware and battery management software, supercharging should have minimal negative effects on cycle life But even y'all will not follow those tips. The battery will not die tomorrow. it is just that there are some small (or big) consequences later on. Have a great day...

@@Anotherdaynparadise, common sense, just like knowing your car will lose all of it's remaining range while you are on the trip? I imagine many EV owners have learned this lesson the same way.

My battery died at 106,000 miles and will cost 20,000 to replace. That’s 19 cents per mile + electricity costs to run my car. Considering at $5 per gallon a 30 MPG car only costs 16 cents per mile, there is no way my tesla was more cost efficient than and ICE car. I loved my tesla but I am over it now. I’ll buy from a better company in the future.
