Schefter is not a real journalist. He’s an access journalist who really functions as PR for the people and entities he covers. If you hold Schefter to journalistic standards, he will disappoint you every time. Point two: nearly all of sports journalism is access journalism. The news outlets are really promoting the leagues and players and have a final incentive to do so. Not journalism.

Troy Aikman is biased against the Chiefs and especially Mahomes. He’s had a chip on his shoulder after a fan told him Mahomes was better than him. Aikman’s reply “let him win 3 Superbowls first then we can talk” Well, in a very short time the media kept showing Mahomes passing all of Aikman’s stats and achievements. Aikman didn’t think Mahomes would do it, got proved wrong and doesn’t like it one bit !

I actually hope you see this, but I'm a Bears fan, so I don't really have any bias at all. I'm a middle person here, but it's the same thing with the Patriots. Back then, it was Deflategate, and then more news came out, etc. People just want to point at something and say, 'Yes, this is why they're winning,' not because they actually have a good coach and team. Texans game roughing Mahomes....the slide and tackle sandwich. Aikman, who himself suffers from CT, kept hyping the helmet to helmet call. If you look closely, it's the two forearms coming to Mahomes head. Yes, Josh Allen's upper torso did barely get across the line, but the ball didn't. Called that way on the field, and nothing viewable to over turn that call. The Bills had the chance to win the game towards the end of the game twice but failed to do so.

The idea that 31 ego driven owners, worth billions of dollars, would allow themselves to lose because Taylor Swift is popular. Like there aren't other athletes with famous girlfriends/fiancé's/wives. The reality is the chiefs have done what they've done with no scandal. Unlike the Patriots. I have a conspiracy theory for you. If a active QB was on pace to eclipse my personal and team records, and I had connections within the industry, I may try to facilitate narratives that don't benefit that active QB or his team. Let’s get one thing out there right away about ESPN as a whole and their journalists/analysts. I’m 40 years old and grew up watching Sportscenter. It was the holy grail of sports journalism, period. The analyst are just as bad. Any penalty that’s not called for the chiefs they breeze by. Anything remotely that fits their narrative they harp on for 10 minutes. Romo just being like oh there’s a little facemask they missed. That stopped them from getting points. Wasn’t some small penalty.

Schefter and Nick both have it wrong. There’s no change the NFL is going to make that takes away the benefit of the whistle the Chiefs get. Most, if not all, of the all time greats have gotten extra calls, Mahomes and this Chiefs team is no different

If both those plays were or would have been upheld by replay assist, that suggests to me either that the system as currently constituted is ineffective, AND/OR that certain players might get undue deference. Either way it's something the league needs to address if it's really concerned about public perception. That all said, I do think your points here about how Schecter tweeted/reported on this issue are good ones. It can be true both that the system needs to be looked at AND that Schecter is an asshat.

Exactly..and notice how darn near every SB goes down to the wire. It used to be that most SB someone would get blown out and no one cared. After bills/giants 90 sb, the bills got blasted 3 years in a row. Nobody complained about cheating back then either.
