We met Irina, the mother of Philip's son, in the season one episode "Duty and Honor" (S1E7), the one where they had to discredit that Polish priest/activist. You guys binge watched season one, so it makes sense you forgot that detail, as well as the Philip flashbacks.

Yes, Philip had a romp with his baby-mama when they were assigned to work together back in season 1 or 2 (I forget, but it was an earlier episode). She ended up running and trying to get Philip to go with her, but he refused and went back to Elizabeth instead. The ex got caught and presumably executed. When Philip returned home, Liz specifically asked him if anything happened and he said "no". Glad to have a "full" recap this week

And Claudia told Elizabeth that he had sex with her (the mother of his older son), presumably to refocus Elizabeth, or make her remember their marriage was "an agreement."

Loved the period Miller High Life bottles. '86-ish is probably about the last time I drank that adjuncticated swill. I hope that they actually wrap this show up. If they know that the last season is coming, they could do such a fantastic closure to this arc. I would love to see Matthew Rhys' character and Kari Russel's character on opposite sides. They could go so dark and paint everyone here as a bad guy. All of the characters on the show are so likeable, but all of them have blood on their hands.

@callmecatalyst It's been a while, but I remember being disappointed in the ending for The Americans. It was a 1000 times better than GoT, but I remember finding it unsatisfying. This is a bizarrely dead thread to be reviving.

Relating to the "revelation" in the fight between Phillip and Elizabeth, we were shown the woman in question during the first season. Her name was Irina. It was after their fight over her that Phillip and Elizabeth truly began to have a loving relationship.

I zoned out - did they mention the fact there was no dialogue for the first five minutes of the episode? Yet, it still brought all the feels. I suppose there was a sense that there's nothing you can really say in the situation Martha found herself in.

in episode 8 of the first season, an agent tells Phillip that she had their baby, they had sex and she asked him to run away with her. Later Elizabeth asks him and he lies.

My favorite bit in this was Elizabeth gut slamming Martha in the park, a little, "okay, that's enough of the hysterical crying woman bit," ad hoc direction (no offense to the actress that plays Martha, she's been great on the show).

Side comment: Ben, this show is a million times better than GoT. Honestly, the reason people keep watching that bloated and floating wreck is for the same reason people kept playing Farmville: they weren't willing to admit they'd made a horrible investment with their time.

+Gangrel Aussie Finally, somebody who also thinks GOT is way overrated by the What the Flick gang and other reviewers. Only 15 minutes to review an episode (or 2) of The Americans and 50 to 65 minutes to review a GOT episode. Don't get it.

***** Honestly? I watch the reviews, not the show. First season didn't sell me, even through Bhaelor, and second was a walk out. I think Benioff is a decent writer (loved 'Troy' by example, though I wouldn't say it was the dialogue that sold me) but I'm getting the feeling that perhaps GRRM's writing difficulties and the shows stem from the same place.
