So many have ended their own lives over conversion therapy and the abandonment and hatred from their parents. That mom at the end, she brought me to tears. The people in this video give me so much hope. I’m so grateful. Thank you.

hatred? Do you seriously believe that people who are not enlightened about homosexuality HATE their gay children and send them to CT because they HATE them? You and your brother are limited in your ability to help if that's what you think.
@andrewc67785 күн бұрын
@@Scotty_SpacemonsterkillerWell, not necessarily (although this can certainly be the case) hating their child, they hate their child’s homosexuality. I see what you’re saying though, not all parents are willfully hurting their children, some of them have just been duped/brainwashed and are afraid, and they believe, at least, that they are genuinely trying to help their child and acting in their best interest due to the values they were raised on themselves or whatever else. This does seem to be how they are portraying it for the actress in the video, since she was actually open to changing her mind. But unfortunately many people do just outright hate homosexuality, and they are acting hateful towards their children. They may not see it as hating their child, but in effect that is what they’re doing.
@andrewc67785 күн бұрын
I actually didn’t know conversion therapy is banned in Canada, that’s good to hear as someone who has moved to Canada from the southern USA (I specify the region bc of its notorious religiosity and consequent attitude towards queerness).
@Scotty_Spacemonsterkiller5 күн бұрын
@@andrewc6778 They may hate homosexuality in the same way people hate pedophilia or rape or cannibalism. They see it as a perversion that ruins lives and, if acted on willfully without remorse, would not enable a person to be right with God. They may liken it to a bad addiction, like gambling or alcoholism or cocaine. People are helped out of such addictions by clinics, and perhaps these people think the same could "cure" homosexuality because they liken homosexuality to such addictions. There are many cultures in the world where homosexuality doesn't seem to exist because people who are gay must not admit it and must assimilate in that culture, pretending to be straight to live a societally acceptable life. There are people who are very liberal, like Cher, who couldn't accept that her daughter was a lesbian, while Sonny, a conservative, did accept it. So, anyway, trying to oversimplify things by claiming that parents who are upset with their children for being gay "hate" them is preposterous.

I was frightened to come out, but thankfully I had a friend who made me swear in our junior year of college that if I was ever asked directly by my parents about my orientation that I would have to tell them because she would have my back otherwise. A year later that very thing happened. My mom found my hidden copy of The Out 100 and asked me why I was reading that. I told them and while it was a bumpy road at the start (my dad accepted me immediately and my mom had a harder time - mostly internally thinking she did something wrong), they accepted me rather quickly and have been very thankful my coming out was so easy. I know that’s not the road for everyone. Wishing those with harder roads well and reach out to places like Trevor Project if you need help!

Ok, long post coming. I have a nice and a nephew who is both gay my nephew. Since he was little, he was different and very feminine, so when he was older, he came out to his parents (my sister and brother-in-law), and they both accepted because they knew since the bigging. My parents did not accept that ( dad more than my mom), but as time passed, they accepted him. Years later, my niece left her husband and found a girl. My father did not like that at all he was furious with my niece. After my mom talked to him, he realized that my niece was who she was, and he still loved his granddaughter. He called her and apologized to her and to my other nephew for being mad at them. Now I have a daughter, she is 16, and if she ever tells me something like that, I wouldn't even for a second tell her I'll send you somewhere or I'll change you, she is my daughter she is my child and I love her regardless. Now my brothers or sisters tell my dad that soon I'll be coming out and he just laughs and say if she's gay so be it ( I'm not gay or ever considered that 😂😂) so my point is that we have to love our kids no matter who they choose to love ❤

Sexual desire is deeply rooted in our brain. To feel attracted to people of the same sex is caused before birth in the womb by a combination of genetic and epigenetic factors. A combination of genes is responsible for male homosexuality and at the same time this exact same combination of genes in women makes them more fertile. That is why there will always be gay people. Evolution has set this for tens of thousands of years, not only in humans, but also in many other mammals. Gay people were born this way. The social environment in which someone grows up does not play a role at all. But it plays a role regarding the gay person's self-acceptance.

I wish they did a show like this in Britain. I’m from there and I honestly wonder what ppl would act like

It's literally the same thing churches are doing, but we're okay with that for some reason. I want kids to have a chance at true freedom, but we gotta quit pushing ideas on them.

Exactly! Most of the time it happens at churches

you can't focus your child to go to therapy to change who they are, if your child tells you that they are gay or lesbian you should support them and not hurt them.

There was a movie made about this in 1999 called "But I'm a Cheerleader"

Well, I’ll speak as someone who did try Reintegrative Therapy, formally known as Reparative Therapy, though it was online, rather in person and it was done by a licensed psychologist. What happened during my sessions is that EMDR techniques were used and I was taught to break down images that caused me to become aroused so they would have less power over me. This was done by imagining the image on a TV screen and imagining myself breaking the image on the TV with a bat or a hammer until the image was in pieces. Then I was to imagine myself picking up the pieces and putting them back on the TV and breaking them a number of times more. I also talked in therapy about my childhood and background and any kind of trauma or any factors that may have played a role in my developing same-sex attraction. Now I admit that currently I am not in therapy anymore. The reason being is that I was not making the effort I should have in therapy. However, I may choose to start again in the future. I will end by saying that Reintegrative Therapy will not necessarily cause one to develop opposite-sex attraction to the point that one marries and has a family. But there are individuals who have found it helpful regardless of whether they ended up married to someone of the opposite-sex or not.

I’m also a survivor. Thanks for sharing your story
@matthewm.98610 күн бұрын
@@CantPrayMeAway Thank-you, but I don’t consider myself a survivor. I chose to go into the therapy on my own and I was already an adult when I did it. I also didn’t endure any kind of torture in the therapy. I just quit because I wasn’t making much progress because I wasn’t making the effort. Also I had to do the therapy virtually because it’s banned where I live, so it was expensive as well.
