They are actually one of the greatest and most underrated rock and roll bands. They are more than just another punk rock band. Great footage! Lucky is the Keith Moon of punk drummers...
@brandonhendrix72233 жыл бұрын
That's what I always say. Sure you can lump them in with hardcore or whatever but to me they have more in common with early Who or Kinks than Minor Threat or whoever. And Keith Morris is one of the best frontmen ever.
@DaveAnchovies3 жыл бұрын
I agree with Brandon, but aside from live and Group Sex , they were never close to being a top 10 after the rhythm section changed. After Golden Shower they were spotty. They were armed with one of the best drummers to pick up a pair of sticks. Lehrer was a machine. When I got into them, I swore it was sped up tape...but just watch him. I honestly think VI and the 90's album were better than Wonderful and Streets. Had a dream I saw them, but never did. If you watch Lucky during Red Tape it might be faster than the record. There are Midwestern bands like Zero Boys early Huskers, Die Kreuzen, Really Red who were more prolific and certainly more overlooked than the Jerks. They were on top here, though. This is better footage than Decline. Lucky is better than Moon...Moon didn't keep time or use a snare. Check out Betzger from Jerry's Kids. Unreal drummer and a really underrated album/band. Is This My World is a top 10 us hardcore punk lp...I discovered it in my 40s...too bad they only thought to bring one mic. Or Hetson is way to loud. Or Keith is too fucked up to sing. He's trying. Guess the sound person blew it. Too bad, this is great. This looks and sounds great for 1981.
@DaveAnchovies3 жыл бұрын
@@brandonhendrix7223 they werent hardcore, neither were Adolescents, Angry Samoans, Really Red...even early DK's (they werent good at hardcore...boring, but totally unique and great before they followed the heard,) same with Misfits midwestern bands like Zero Boys, Toxic Reasons--skate punk bands like JFA, Faction, Big Boys, blah blah blah
@brandonhendrix72233 жыл бұрын
@@DaveAnchovies indeed. In fact, in hindsight, the Adolescents come off closer to a less pop Buzzcocks (an admitted influence), the Samoans (a personal favorite) have always maintained they're basically an updated 60s garage rock band (I'd say that applies to the early CJs too). Most of these bands were lumped into hardcore simply because of the era they belonged to.

so did george Hurley of Minutemen. and Betzger of Jerrys Kids, even Bill V. from Samoans. People go gah gah over Biscuits, Grohl (yuck)...but these guys stand up to any "rock" drummer, usually making more out of crappier and smaller kits, playing live without monitors. Lucky is insane to watch. Theres a weird-punk from Detroit these days, best drummer Ive ever seen live. cool fuckin band too. Before, they were a more modernized Dead Boys-y Clone Defects. not weird, but when you thought punk was dead in the late 90s early 00s, they were playing clubs while being ignored.

i couldnt hear em on my phone...on my desktop, sound clear. i cant stop watching Lucky, anywhere. Nothing underrated about them, besides Group Sex, maybe a bit overrated. Angry Samoans second lp is a perfect example of punk rock in the 80's US and were blackballed...they offended the wrong people and were outcasts. Whats more punk rock than that? They are more appreciated now. But not in the history books, where they barely, if are even, mentioned

You all sure that this isn't the late, great, Charlie Quintana on drums? Here's Keith responding to my posting another live film from the June 1981 East Coast Tour and, asking how Charlie came on board... "Charlie played our 1st East Coast tour. Lucky got in a fight 2 nights before we were going to leave. He told the 3 of us we're not playing those shows and I said "Fuck that!". I called Charlie immediately after Lucky tried to make a major decision for us. I wasn't having that and Mr. Quintana was already familiar with our songs. We practiced for 4 hours and flew to NY the next morning............ "
