This is awesome. I have to replace the rf wheel bearing on my Tracker. Didn't want to pay someone else to do it when I have friends with a press and needed tools. This looks easy to follow in conjunction with the manual for torque specs and such. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Thank you internet!! Thank you robinsonsauto

Another great video, Will! You took your time and showed us how to do it step by step. Each of these are different so it's good to see how each model is done.

I notice you like the anti seize compound, thats the first time I have seen it applied on the wheel studs as well as the caliper mounting bolts. Do you recommend this lube on all wheel nuts and caliper bolts ?
@71bee38312 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response! I ended up doing just that. pounded my big ol' screwdriver on the backside a few times. broke those suckers loose. now all I gotta do is wait for my wheel nut tool to get here. found one on egouge after driving all over town looking for one. :P

thanks for the instructions. I'm in the middle of doing mine right now. I would have one word of caution in getting the hub off...my bearings were quite rusted on. If you use a puller as you did, the only thing keeping the stub shaft in place is a snap ring. It would be easy to mess that up. The factory service manual says to use a slide hammer affixed to the wheel studs. I didn't have that, so I made one. I also made the spanner socket. from a large socket and steel dowel pins.

good question, this style bearing comes packed came as a complete unit however some styles like the ones that were in it (3 piece cone shape) most times don't therefore you will need to pack them

Hi, Great video, it helped me a lot! I got a question if you dont mind. As I was doing the job I found out that the halfshaft had a lot of play, I removed the spindle and found out it had a brass bushing in it, I removed the other side and there was a needle bearing... someone must have changed one of the spindles I guess... the one with the brass had a lot of play and the other with the needle bearing had less play... is that play normal? Can I remove the brass bushing and replace it with a bearing? I find it weird that the halfshafts have play inside the spindle... Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi @robinsonauto, about a decade late to the game here but can't find anything else nearly as helpful. A question on the washer you're installing around 20:50 -- I've noticed it is rounded on one side, flat on the other. My inclination is to install the rounded side against the bearing/race and the flat side will touch the spanner nut. Mine all fell apart when I took it apart and I don't remember the orientation as well as my service manual not even mentioning the washer at all! Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi, on 21:24 you say it should be torqued to 150 ft. lbs. Are you talking about the circular plate with many holes?

my 1997 tracker did not have the cap with philips head screws. it has a spring washer behind the nut. had to push each lock on the washer in one-at-a-time to loosen the nut.

I completely lost the bearing on the left driver side, and I have the new wheel hub with the bearing pressed in, but since it was forever since the bearings were replaced, I need the all the washer things, screws, and snap a ring. What is the kit called for all of those things?
@robinsonsauto12 жыл бұрын
Your welcome, Keep in mind the puller will apply more even pressure. a slide hammer will work however if its frozen your better off with a puller or your going to be beating for awhile it will go however a even pull is always better than beating just talking from past experiences. Your not going to damage the snap ring, you would pull the bolt threads first. its surprising the amount of pressure it takes to damage a snap ring or the retaining groove. Good tips though thank you
@TheMchucker12 жыл бұрын
do what i did and buy an impact screw driver, bought it at oreilly , its a screw driver that you tap with a hammer. Every time you tap it it rotates the screw under pressure, thus mostly eliminating a stripped screw. I had to use it on my camry idle air control that had brass screws that would not budge.It worked great for 12 bucks. hopefully this helps

yes i believe it is a 10T i have the cutoff set to 10,000psi that's around 5T as you may have noticed at one point she was cutting in and out
@robinsonsauto12 жыл бұрын
its a tight press fit you my be there awhile beating and my cause damage, if you noticed at one point while pressing the press started surging on off that cutoff was set at 10,000psi most shops will press it for you for a small cost...

Do you happen to remember where you got the special spanner wrench tool from? Is it specific for trackers or universal?
@71bee38312 жыл бұрын
So it won't just spin @ high revs? that's interesting. I have a good compressor & a good air ratchet that I thought about using, but I was worried about stripping those phillips heads. if I used my impact wrench, I know they would've been been toast! thanks for the info guys, your the best!

@robinsonsauto12 жыл бұрын
came loos for me on this one, however, if your having issues try taking and whacking the back of the screwdriver with a hammer. as long as its not a cheepy lol give it a couple good hits continue tapping as you apply pressure and try to break the loose... now that i think about it you can probably see be doing that in fast motion when the clip sped through me removing them, guess in hindsight i should have played that part out. a impact screwdriver would be the correct tool

Are the geo's the same as a chevy tracker cause I have a tracker and it has a shake in the front end I think it might be coming from the wheel bearing but not sure not a car guy haha but the stearing wheel it self moves rite to left and I can hear a popping noise in the front end somewhere

@Kennynva11 жыл бұрын
From what I understand these bearing are what they call CRUSH bearings...and are not 3 pieces anymore....and you install the one piece bearing now..and torque it to at least 123 ft lbs...and continue to tighten the lock ring until the screw holes line up with the lock ring plate...but it HAS to be at least 123ft lbs torque or the bearing will fail in less than 1000 miles....

Gotcha. my mistake. I was real curious to learn more about an air tool I could trust in a situation like this. I know exactly which tool your talking about.
@TheMchucker12 жыл бұрын
um, no to an air tool on this type of tool. This is a hand held screw driver that you strike manually with a hammer. As you tap/strike the tool it seats the phillips or regular bit into the screw head, thus seating the screw driver head against the screw itself while( and this is the key) turning the screw at the same time. Just check o reilly or another auto place or visit a utube channel . Once you see the tool in action you will understand what I am describing/
