Dude i was convinced it was a wheel bearing on my pathfinder. It started just like it. I tested it, and so did my more mechanically inclined friend. At the time it was just loud interior noise and high speed vibration. He said to get the belts looked at before i jumped to any conclusion. I did was told everything was fine. Now 2 and a half weeks later clicking started... looked that up and now everything makes sense.

This is the same issue im having. I looked and reached up in there with the car sitting on the ground normal. The boot was torn open horribly and a hunk of grease was sitting below it.

When that joint get neglected for so long that there ain't no grease in there anymore, it long passed the clicking state.

On my ‘05 Subaru Outback, I have this clicking/clunking/metal scraping noise when turning the wheel side to side and a “wua wua wua wua” scraping noise when driving straight at low speeds. I think in my case it could be both the axle as well as the wheel bearing.

Thank you for the video! I have a 2006 Jeep Commander Limited and I’m getting this rubbing/grinding noise and vibration from the front drivers side. It happens at about 30mph and above going straight and swerving/turning to the right. If i slightly swerve/turn to the left the noise completely goes away. I have replaced my propeller shaft cv joint a year ago, and I just replaced my drivers side front wheel bearing, and checked and rotated my tires. I did look at the cv joint when I replaced the wheel bearing, and it seems ok, but I didn’t 100% inspect it, because I didn’t think it could be the problem at the time, no boot tears, but it’s original. After that I’m still getting the same noise and vibration. Could it be the drivers side cv joint, or the front differential? Could the new wheel bearing be defective? Any ideas will really help. Thank you!

Without actually looking at it, it’s really hard to say. Definitely check your axles. And yes, it is possible to have a defective wheel bearing. I’ve had one of those in the past. Make sure nothing is rubbing like a dust cover or something like that. sorry I couldn’t be more help, sometimes without actually looking at its hard to diagnose specially noises.

So i’m thinking i may have this problem honestly i thought it was a wheel bearing and was gonna buy them but i have grease coming out of the cv joint but the boot doesn’t seem to be torn help!

That inner CV joint is definitely destroyed and it probably caused all kinds of vibrations upon acceleration but is it possible that the "bearing noise" came from the bad/rusted CV axle support bearing (right behind the inner CV joint)? It may be what i'm experiencing now on my 2 year old Cardone axle. Both boots and CV joints still look new but the bearing is growling like crazy and the bearing temperature is over 150F after a drive (left and right wheel hubs/knuckles are only 75F).

getting a broken axle fix does it affect your wheel barrier if it isn’t installed correctly? The next day of me paying to get a axle fix, wheel barron started making noise, and sound like something was falling from underneath my car.

Hi there! May i ask for your opinion? I have a 2005 Nissan Frontier. There is a vibration coming from the front right side, which gets worse and make the whole vehicle shake as i increase speed, or when going down hill. The vibration feels like a skip-skipity-skip, and can also be felt going up hill and on flat surfaces. There is no rhythm to the vibration. The noise started when i would slowly come out of a small inclined driveway whiles turning my wheel to the right, and as i realign the wheel a metal 'boing', (like metal vibrating) type of sound would happen. It then started to do the same noise whiles moving again after stopping at a red light, and at a higher speed than usual. Today i experienced several 'click click' sounds as the wheel was turned to the left, going around a round-about, as well as going over a bump. Of course EVERY TIME i take my mechanic with me or they test drive my truck, no noise happens. They feel a little vibration, and stiffness. The struts and strut mounts were just replaced which made a difference, but there is still something happening. Any advice would be much appreciate!

Whit out driving it it hard to say. but the 3 key things to look at is tires out of round, worn out axle, or wheel bearing going out. also you need to look at your drive shaft and make sure the ujoints are not frozen.

​@@AutoRepairTips757 Thank you so much for responding!! There is a tiny crack in the cv boot on the right side. My mechanic says it looks fine and that if it were his vehicle he wouldn't change it. They checked the wheel bearings and they were fine. Ill bring this up to them for more guidance! Thanks again, i really appreciate it :)

I wanted to share with you our findings so far! Turns out my motor mounts are both shot. It's just bouncing around, and worse the more i accelerate. It could be responsible for the bad shaking i was feeling. It can also be the culprit for the 'boing' sounds, which can now be heard from the center left and right (which is where the mounts are located). But it can also be something else, which could be related to the click click sounds i heard to the front far right.. i can still feel that little skipping to the far right when im not putting any pressure on the pedal.. to be continued.. I will see what changes, once the mounts are fixed!

@@dareldiass9958 Oh man, that must be quite annoying!! Well after changing the motor mounts, the noise is still happening. Turns out i also had warped routers, which were definitely causing some extra skipping. And we also changed my lower ball joints as they had a lot of give. This was done on thursday, and of course as i drove off the noise happened, and couple more times that day (but of course never around my mechanics haha). At least its becoming more frequent now, which may help locate it. I am wondering if it may be the trans mount.. I am going back to the mechanic this week and will let you know if we find anything!!

I noticed you used air wrench to tighten the nut is it supposed to be tight? I was told to tighten and then back it out just a hair other wise you wreck wheel bearing.

Even though I use an air ratchet they are not that tight i’ve just done it that way for so long I know what it should feel like. You should use a torque spec sheet

I tightened it alot more noise is gone and vibration. I may feel it a little bit but I think I might tighten it another hair or two.

Could the bearing holding up this axel in the middle behind the failed CV joint be making noise similar to a failed wheel bearing? I'm hearing a wheel bearing type noise at 35-55mph but it doesn't sound like its coming from either wheel it sounds like its coming more from the middle right about where that bearing is. None of my CV boots are torn. I don't hear a change in pitch when I turn the wheel back and forth at speed. When I jack up the car and turn the wheels, I don't feel any abnormal girding or rubbing both the wheels seem tight. When I'm at speed and I shift to neutral and coast the noise doesn't change. Tires are only 2 months old. Infared temp sensor shows no increase in heat on any wheel after driving down the highway. I'm at a loss. I'm suspecting that bearing that supports that long passenger side drive shaft in the middle. It's a 2012 Nissan Altima.
