that is the single most charismatic vcr game instruction video i’ve seen, now i want this game, and i dont even own a vcr!

I had this machine and used to play it along with the show. The letters would come up on the screen at the exact moment that Vanna would flip them over. In my business, I work with a lot of blind people, so I came up with the idea to use a Braille display instead of the LCD to allow a blind person to read the puzzles on Wheel of Fortune. The Braille cells would flip over to show the letters when Vanna flips them, so a blind person would be able to work on a partially-revealed puzzle by reading the Braille.

I had this back in the day. You where actually able to play along with the actual televised broadcast of the game show.

@@LuckyPennyShop LPS Dave you think that's cool, MEGA Hanuman and MEGA/ PANCHAMUKI Ganesha are even cooler! Hanuman has punching gloves and Karate Kicks! But PANCHAMUKI Ganesha has 8 heads! (He's got Kataragama devi's genes!) He can use revolution to turn to the normal Ganesha we already know! Told you that's cool!

11:48 It's interesting that OFF has priority for protection rather than on. I think you would be more concerned about accidentally turning it on than off.

I remember this one game that was developed by Tiger Electronics back in 2004 called Wheel of Fortune Live Play, which was very similar to this. Though not officially released, some Live Play units do exist under the Parker Brothers brand, but they're truly a rare gem. As one who loves collecting all things Wheel of Fortune, I'm looking forward to get my hands on a unit someday, somehow, some way. On the other hand, this 1988 game is far easier to get your hands on since it was officially released. In fact, in early 2012, I bought one of these off of Ebay along with the Volume 1 video tape. Note trying to play the VCR mode with a digital TV (such as an HDTV) is not possible. If you still have an old analog TV lying around somewhere that's still working, that's what you need if you want to play VCR mode. I also heard word that taped episodes from 1988 work on this thing, even ones that GSN reran back in 2003 or so.

WIth this device, You could play along with the nighttime syndicated show maingame puzzles as the show was airing between 9/5/88-at least 9/1/90. Some said the device worked with shows from that era rerunning on GSN in the early 2000s.

Also, I saw the arcade version once at Haunted Trails, but never played it.

This has a *VERY* strong nostalgic feel to it. This is one of those classic toys I used to love to play. Is there any way I can get this game again? I also love the vintage TV set you have as it also has quite a strong nostalgic feel to it. I want a time machine to take me back to those days again.

Can you explain, how exactly game scans letters from TV? I mean, are the words were already written in game's memory, so game can load phrase by comparing scanned mask from TV, or is it really somehow scans letters directly from TV?
@LuckyPennyShop11 жыл бұрын
Here is what it says in the booklet. "For optimal reception of the invisible signal from the TV show. Also in the troubleshooting section "You are watching the daytime TV show which is not encoded with invisible signals." and then "Occasionally, due to technical difficulties, the evening TV show may not be broadcast with encoding" So it looks like the show is sending the signal to the unit.
@jamesb83056 жыл бұрын
It works using the same principle as an infrared remote. CRT's emit infrared light. The broadcast had the puzzle encoded, and timing when Vanna flipped letters.
@jmlim709510 жыл бұрын
Would the device work if the puzzle video was copied from a VHS to a computer file? That is we aim device at a computer screen... I'm also wondering how the device manages to pick up signals from the broadcast version; more importantly how does it know what letters are actually in play.
@LuckyPennyShop10 жыл бұрын
The signal just sends the puzzle to the game. It is not letting you play directly with the TV version. So once it gets the signal then you play the handheld version of the game. I'm not sure about converting the VHS to an MP4 and if it will do the same thing.
