Re: if anyone has spun the wheel and broke it: Not in the US as far as I know. There is a story out of the UK on their version of Wheel of Fortune; there was a mechanism in their wheel that regulated the speed of the wheel (not outright rigging the spin, but making sure it at least slowed down). One contestant accidentally spun it the wrong way, ruining the mechanism and causing the taping to be postponed to the next day.
