Wheel of Time review Season 2 Episode 4, I'm a bit behind but with a story like this, that's a good thing! Min decides to sign up with the Forsaken Ishmael like he's not just told her he's the devil. Lan spends the episode whining about Moiraine who can apparently maintain a warder bond while "stilled". Rand instantly finds out Lanfear has been after him when Moiraine magically finds him. No-one knows how she knew. And Liandrin simultaneously cares about Nynaeve and sends her to Falme? Why have you done this? Rafe Judkins has systematically stripped every character of their best parts, it's impressive at this point how little of the books is in the show. But what did you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

Book spoilers: Early on in The Great Hunt, we learn something about Moiraine. She's not afraid of being stilled. Every other Aes Sedai is terrified of losing her power. That's how dedicated she is the Dragon Reborn. Rafe destroyed this important bit of characterization by having her lose her powers. Another important fact: Lan is fond of Rand. Lan's mentor/apprentice relationship with Rand forces Moiraine to stop thinking about Rand as nothing but the Dragon Reborn and see him a scared but brave boy who needs her protection. I don't think Rafe comprehends a relationship that doesn't involve getting horizonal. This show gives us so much of Moiraine but also so little of her.

Rafe hates the male characters so much, that he can't resist using the female characters to crap all over them... even when it has the sometimes subtle side effect of making the female character into someone that no one likes. Probably the first example is just outside Shadar Logoth. Instead of it being Moiraine's smart but risky decision, they turn it into Lan's stupidity... and thus begin to turn Moraine into Moron. Then, in S1E6, in order to push the idea that the DR is NOT a male, they have Moron being a Moron, and pushing that stupid narrative about Tiamat... a 5-headed dragon, and Nynaeve, in spite of the fact that she knows it CAN'T be Nynaeve, because N is too old...

I'm pretty sure they were both older sisters as well, not younger sisters. And even if they were younger, Moiraine was only in her early 40's, so the little sister would only be like late 30's at most. But apparently they really needed another example of Aes Sedai longevity, even though they already had that made-up nonsense about Liandrin's imaginary son to drive the point home. Not sure why they couldn't just have Adeleas or Verin put flowers on two graves, and mention that they were two of her Warders who died of old age, "and now [warder's name] is getting up there as well. I'll probably outlast two or three more before the Wheel is done with me." or something like that to make the point without all this empty drama with new characters that don't matter. Only a little related, but I think Moiraine's little sister is going to get combined with/replace Lady Colaveare if the show runs long enough, [SPOILER TIME] so that when Rand has to dethrone her, the exile instead of execution will be a gesture toward Moiraine, and her subsequent self-deletion will cause more pointless drama between the protagonists. Because if there's one thing the books didn't have enough of, it's petty conflicts and bad communication dragging the champions of the Light down.🤦🏻

Love how the whole dynamic with Rand and Selene is that she is supposed to be the most beautiful woman ANY man has ever seen and she constantly tries to use that against Rand to seduce him and due to Rand's morals he always rejects her and that specifically is what leads to a huge plot point later on...that the show will never be able to do correctly because Selene and Rand have now slept together...destroying Rand, his morality, selene's goals and his relationship with Aviendha, Min and Elayne who bond over worrying about Rand slipping...but never does...oh well I guess. And this is the problem with writers adding their own BS where it doesn't belong, something as simple as creating the wrong relationship that didn't exist literally screws with multiple characters and entire plotlines...but the show skips around between 5 different books in a single given episode at times, so who even cares at this point right? Seriously, after listening to these break downs, I honestly couldn't tell where the show is supposed to be, some events don't happen until like book 5, but characters are just being introduced now who were introduced in Book one, Rand is meeting people he doesn't meet until book 4 yet we're also doing events that happened in Book 2....it's like they're trying to cram 5-6 books worth into 8 episodes while also wasting time and adding BS that doesn't need to be there and I honestly haven't a clue where the show is actually supposed to be.

Book Spoiler: The traits that all the heroes of the Wheel of Time have is loyalty and courage. Egwene is no exception. Her use of the One Power is limited to lighting candles/campfires and making small glowing balls of life. The closest thing she has to fighting knowledge is that she knows how to use a sling. She has a dream power that she used once by the time. That's it. Despite this, Egwene never hesitates to help her friends. Especially Rand.
@daelusca Жыл бұрын
Egwene is a "hero" in WoT? What series did you read? While Jordan never directly called her evil, he was very clear in his writing, from Book 1, Chapter 4, that she was a narcissist, entirely devoted to her own gain; she cared about noone save herself. He implicitly declared who she was when the boys needed to be torn from their village that they wanted to stay and defend after Winter's Night and would only leave once they were convinced the trollocs would continue attacking their village unless they left. Egwene, one of the 2 main healers in the village, instead of staying to help Nynaeve save the lives of those injured in the attack, wanted to go on an "adventure".....her words. Every decision she makes in the book and to advance her cause, Jordan could not have been clearer.

@@daelusca Looks like you only read Book 1, Chapter 4. You should read before and after that one chapter. @daelusca Жыл бұрын
lol....I doubt there are more than a handful of fans that have read this entire series more than I have. Egwene is the definition of a narcissist throughout all 14 books. She admits it to herself when she is alone in Telaranriod, because she wouldn't allow Nynaeve or Elayne enough time with the ring to practice because she wanted to be the only Dreamer in over a thousand years. Time and again Jordan clearly shows who she is. She villifies Elaida for having Aes Sedai swear oaths directly to her (instead of the Tower) and yet she does the exact same thing at the exact same time (Myrelle and the one helping with Lan's bond were the first 2 she subjigated). Care to show an example where that description "falls apart"? I'll be holding my breath in anticipation. If I remember right, it was possible to Shield someone, and invert the shield weave so it was invisible, and the person so Shielded would appear to be unable to touch the Power, which is how both Stilled and ungifted appear to channelers. @aaronc4899 Жыл бұрын
This happened to Liandrin in the books (and Falion, I guess). After Liandrin was permanently shielded, she was subsequently captured by the Seanchan. The Seanchan knew that she was a channeler, but they did not understand the effect that was keeping her from channeling. IIRC, Morgase (a weak and untrained channeler) encountered the enslaved Liandrin without knowing she was Aes Sedai, and had the distinct impression that Liandrin could channel. So, no, in the books, a woman being shielded did not prevent other women from detecting her channeling ability.

Rand was the one who used this link to CLEANSE the male side of the One Power, and STILL the women were not painted by the author as individuals who are instantly replaced when this news spread from one nation to the next. I can go on, for example, with the Invaders Why were their enslaved power uses only women? Are we supposed to believe that their nation also feared men with the power? Are we supposed to believe that throughout their nations of conquest they did not encounter/enslave a single male channeler? No. That is unrealistic AND the author did not want anyone during this age to use the One Power (except for the rogue males and Rand.). WOKE.

Woke? Maybe as far as the time they began publishing, but today you can't have a universe that distinguishes between men and women; _saidin_ and _saidar_ are the power that drives Creation and are split between male and female. It's questionable to acknowledge that _societies_ distinguish between men and women, and that's a constant topic in the books. Jordan never makes the claim that one is greater than the other, but they are distinct and often separate.

Disparu seems to be really reaching when trying to make fun of things in this show. He claims to know the books, but conveniently forgets there actually were things like he's making fun of in the books. Take the colored Aes Sedi symbols, for example: The Ajahs used Aes Sedi symbols of their color to differentiate themselves from each other with their shawls, but we're not even 4 mins in and he's making fun of the very thing on the Accepted clothes.

Aes Sedai means servant. And Moiriane is in service and see her self as such in the books not as a god.
@kaltaron1284 Жыл бұрын
To be fair, a servant can manipulate his master. If it's a good and faithful one to his master's good but other examples exist.

Her 'service' is to the world, rather than any one person. Her first goal is to ensure the Dark One isn't freed, and her second is to prevent another Breaking of the World. Her initial method is attempting to make him a puppet, and when that fails by offering advice to help him accomplish _his_ goals.

I swear to god I’m am so sick of listening to Liandrin and Alanna. Why are they here? Has anyone who has actually read the books ever asked for more of these boring inconsequential characters. They’ve cut Galad, Gawyn, Juilin, Gaul, Elaida and Hurin (Morgase and Byrne from season 1 too) from the season and they’ve had more screen time than Thom, Tam, Fain and worst of all Mat “flaming”Cauthon, the most popular character of the series and an actual main character. This show needs to stop side tracking the plot to explore the emotions of characters who have no bearing on the story. Oh no Liandrin has an old decrepit son, how does that affect her story or character? It doesn’t, you could cut the whole thing and nothing would change. Alanna likes to have threesomes with her warders, we got it the first time, what bearing does it have on Aes Sedai politics? There is so much time being wasted, yet this show is discarding over a thousand pages of world class fiction

Y'know, there was a time when I couldn't understand for the life of me why someone would bother to watch or read reviews of something. I know what I like and really didn't care what someone else thought as long as I felt entertained. I was fully aware I liked some things that were objectively good, and some that really were absolutely terrible. Why would I want to get some random stranger's take on something I already watched and either liked, or didn't? Also, wouldn't help me to decide to see something or not, because tastes vary and as I said I like some stuff others hate. I would never have thought that I would get to the point I'm at now, where the reviews are the actual entertainment and I can't be bothered to watch their subject matter anymore because I know I would just get either bored, annoyed or both. It's crazy. Your rantviews simply are the best, keep it up!

FYI: Remember, in the book people fall into three categories where the Power is concerned: Those with an innate spark who are going to channel no matter what; those with the capacity who can be taught, but exhibit no obvious tendency; and those who cannot channel at all. So when Anvaere (a real book character from the prequel, no matter how many times you claim she is fabricated) says; "Light knows I tried.", it is not out of canon. Of course the plot/scene is, and you are right to blast it, but watch out you get details correct while claiming they don't get details correct. Like claiming Elayne wasn't involve with the girls going to Falme. She absolutely was. You are correct that Min is missing from this, because she's doing Ishamael's/Liandrin's bidding in getting Mat to join Rand.

What Rafe, and everyone connected with RPVP (Rosamund Pike's Vanity Project), will never understand is the bedrock lesson of the book, the very reason why the yin-yang symbol is employed. Only when men and women work together do things work well. Lews Therin knew how to seal up the Dark One, but the women refused to take part. So he did it with men alone, and it worked, but with disastrous consequences. Now, matriarchy is prominent (though not universal), women rule in truth via the White Tower where 99% of magical power is concentrated, and the world remains chaotic. That's all on a macro scale. On the small scale, Aes Sedai have Warders because men are better fighters, better guards, and provide psychological balance; also because the Aes Sedai are "constrained" by the Three Oaths, having a bonded partner who can lie and fight on the moment is useful. This show attempts to tell us all the reasons why Aes Sedai have Warders, and they are all WRONG and stupid. "We remind them that they are not gods" No, that's idiotic. Every moment of the Tower training is reminder that a women who can use Saidar doesn't become a god; you don't have delusions of divinity while mucking out stables, hoeing cabbage, scrubbing pots, and mopping floors. So nothing about having a Warder involves reminding them of the first lessons of a novice; it is about having someone who can watch while you're focused on channeling, someone who can speak unconstrained, and oh, someone who doesn't automatically frighten people because of the power they can wield. Moiraine always sends Lan to speak with innkeepers, ship captains, merchants and the like to avoid being recognized, and avoid the intimidation which comes with having to face an Aes Sedai.

Yeah, this is not just a "translation" problem. The writers on this show are absolutely horrible and have no idea how characters work, and they are just wasting the Actors (some are pretty good), but more importantly , like Netflix did to The Witcher, they are ruining a Writer's life-long work and success . I am certainly convinced the Writer's don't "study/read/talk about" the books their show is based on... 1. If they did actually read and discuss the books, the show would have some idea who their Core Characters are ( this show is 1.5 seasons in and it still doesn't know who it wants to lead) . The man playing Rand is actually pretty decent at it ... LET HIM FREAKING ACT , give him at least 1 episode . Instead, we get Nyneave / Egwene ( who i both like, but they have become 1 dimensional in this show) scenes, or we are forced to watch Moraine walk around looking kinda sad... wtf is happening in this show? WHY IS THERE NO URGENCY to FIND THE F*CKING HORN ? And what has happened with Mat and the Dagger? The first Season they butchered the last 2-3 episodes / Blight/ Green Man/ Eye of the World from book 1 (the best part of the book) ... It only makes sense, that probably my favorite scene out of the first... 4 or maybe 5 books ( the search for horn(and dagger, remember that? Mat is literally dying a slow death because Fain took that dagger too) / sneaking into Falme / the battle at Toman Head) at the end of Book 2 will get ruined too. God... there is so much material they are just blatantly ignoring ... this show deserves people/writers/ARTIST who actually care about their craft ... They are too scared to allow the Male characters to show their strengths (Warders HARDLY EVER TALK ) (ESPECIIALY LAN !!!! LAN HATES TALKING TO OTHER PEOPLE WTFFFFF) , but we should of had 3-4 fighting scenes so far. we have had what.. 1 ? 2 maybe if you count Nynaeve escaping from the seanchan ( don't get me started on Liandrin ... ) Lord of The Rings, Wheel of Time, Witcher... it's almost like the art of Story-Telling is being ruined on purpose . Why? Who knows?

thats not true. They have several hardcore book readers as advisers who know the lore way more than you ever will. The world of wheel of time is just kind of "woke". And you cant adapt 15 massive books and 1000+ characters in 8 seasons. Thats impossible. So you have to rewrite a lot. And yes, season 1 was not very good, the finale was horrible. But season 2 is really good now. So stop the unnecessary hate...
@Nyet-Zdyes Жыл бұрын
@@HB-zt1ed And not one single thing that you said explains the reason that they've turned MIN into a Darkfriend. There is NO excuse for that. Nor does any of that excuse having Perrin fridge his wife... the "triangle" crap between Rand, Perrin and Egwene... turning Moiraine into Moron... Lan into whiny simp, Mat into thief who is able to feed evil to Mashadar... And season 2 is continuing the pattern laid down in season 1.
