I agree about ramping up the horror in WoT. When I read WoT as a teen the Ways scared the hell out of me. I'd love them to treat the Ways like they did the Mines of Moria or Cirith Ungol in the LoTR films .

I feel like a major-ish plotline that could be cut entirely is the Shaido post-Lord of Chaos. When Couladin dies, have them team up with the White Tower, and then Dumai's Wells be the end of it. Really helps keep Perrin more "in the plot," too.

That kind of would ruin the plot with the Prophet, since the Prophet plot gets resolved in less than 10 minutes without the Shaido, and Perrin never gets the opportunity to team up with the Seanchan against the Shaido, and Battle of Malden can't happen because the Prophet won't have channelers so he can't just replace the Shaido and do what they did without channelers, making the Whitecloak plot happen without the Shaido and all the refugees that Perrin has to take care will also become more difficult. This kind of fucks up all of Perrin's storylines between Dumai's Wells and the Last Battle. And makes characters like Faile, Aram, Tam, have nothing to do between then either.

@@roccaflocca4312 I mean in this case, unless you suggest we also remove the story of the Shaido from the Fires of Heaven, with the conquest of Cairhien and Dumai's Wells, then removing them after the Dumai's Wells would actually take more time, since you would have to set up a new enemy to take their place from scratch, and you would have to completely change everything, because the only possible replacements for the Shaido are Whitecloaks and the Prophet, neither group uses channelers, so all the battle tactics change completely since the Battle of Malden happened the way it, only because Shaido had so many Wise Ones.

I think Fain was still pretty important to book 4 because he brought the Whitecloaks to the two rivers. And arguably he's important in book 7 when he stabs Rand with the Shadar Logoth dagger. After that he's almost completely irrelevant. I would say maybe have him die at that point in book 7.

As soon as they said "which Forsaken can we get rid of?" I said "Demandred!" and then they said "Why not make Mazrim Taim actually be Demandred?" and I love that idea. But yeah, there are too many Forsaken that barely get any screen time, and the ones that die (not by balefire) are given a new name and appearance, which is unnecessarily complicated for a TV show. I definitely think Balthamel, Aginor Demandred and Asmodean can be fused with other characters, and we don't need the first two to be resurrected. Lanfear is an awesome character, but her becoming Cyndane is just unnecessary. Maybe the whole foxes and snakes bit can be left out, though I honestly loved it. The only Forsaken transformation that made any sense and added something interesting to the character for me was Graendal becoming Hessalam.

Something occurred to me while watching this. Yes, the series is huge and there is no way they are going to make 14 seasons for this show. Yes, there are plotlines that seem to drag and that you didn't particularly care for. What we love about this series, though, is how well the characters are developed and the world building. The reason it is so long, and the reason why we fall in love with these characters and their story, is because we spend so much time with them; be it fun, suspenseful, and action packed, or just them walking, just hanging out, or whatever. We get to see them through their ups and downs and just oks. The reason we keep going back, is because of this. This is why we cherish the Wheel of Time. The fact they are making a tv show of it is so exciting and we all can't wait for it to come out already. We want the rest of the world to love the story and its characters just as we do. We also know that it is inevitable that things are going to be changed or just completely cut. It is fun to speculate on. We are also spending this time doing so because we need to prepare ourselves for losing and changing elements of this series we love so much. I worry that the television audience won't get to have that same experience and connection to the characters (unless they read the series, of course). It just has to be done perfectly.

Don't take Aviendha off :( I really don't like the relationship between Rand and Elayne. For me, Mat and Elayne had more chemistry in a short period of time than she and Rand in the whole series. Maybe taking Elayne out of the loving "square" and exploring more she with other people (--Mat--) generates more development in her journey until being the queen of Andor and in the interaction with other characters

Unfortunately, Elayne and Rand's babes lead to huge plot points, due to Elayne thinking the prophecy made her invincible. Aviendha is more relevant than Daniel realizes. Her relationship with Rand is the center for the latter's views on the Aiel and his value system

They can be removed and it wouldn't hurt the overall plot. I think Rand doesn't embrace the Aiel value system. He forces himself for the sake of Aiel but doesn't follow it at all if he is not dealing with them.

By that logic, a lot of threads in the wheel could be removed and we have only a handful of things to do before Tarmon Gai'don. There are ways to remove Elayne's plotlines, but then she and Birgitte wouldn't be the same characters. What I meant by value system wasn't that Rand assumed part of the Aiel culture. I meant that his views on morality, and his views on the value of life for the Aiel who followed him, shifted gradually through his interactions.

I hope that powerful (in terms of story progression and main character development) but minor characters (in terms of air time) stay in the show, the way how the plot intervines with their lives is what makes the world of WoT unique and wholesome.

If there is one minor thread that I hope they keep, it's Hinderstap. They could easily cover it in a single episode but it is such an iconic sequence, it's so well written and full of character, and it even has some payoff right at the end of the final book. I will be so disappointed if they cut it, the tone goes from growing tension and then just ramps up to 11 and I think putting that in a visual medium can only make it even more exciting.

More time on Elayne and Rand tbh. They meet and talk like a few lines to each other and fall in love and pine for each other. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, but it went a bit too far. That is if they are still gonna be lovers in the show. To me, Min was always the girlfriend. She stuck around, she flirted, she took care of him.. She was there. I like Aviendha, but she, like Elayne were too absorbed with their duties and their people to fully become focused on love. Wich is fine. And also cool, but it does chill the relationship part a bit. Especially with Elayne, since they barely spent any time together at all. And only for very short periods of time. Aviendha at least got the whole Aiel Waste arc to be with him. Edit : About Tam, Nynaeve gave a good example of him. Considering how she likes to be in charge, have responsibility and take care of others. And how she certainly doesn't like to be told what to do and be given "advice". The fact that she mentioned how Tam was someone whom she could get advice from without feeling inferior speaks quite a bit about him.

100% agree. Elayne and Aviendha both “suffer” in the relationship department because they largely do their own stuff. If you want to you could give Aviendha a little fling with Rand during their time together just like Mat and that dark one maiden that gets killed.

I agree with condensing the forsaken. There are three changes I would make: 1. Get rid of Aginor. The first time around he got fried by saidin, which didn't make much sense with what we learned about channelling later. And when he came back as Dashiva he again did absolutely nothing. 2. Combine Graendal and Mesaana. Mesaana was important plotwise because of her role in the white tower but was one of the least developed forsaken personality wise, and most of the times we saw her she was disguised by the power. Graendal had a lot of character development but she didn't really do that much. 3. Combine Demandred and Taim. This should be a no brainer, since it's what Jordan originally intended anyway. Be'lal also did almost nothing, but I actually like having Moiraine one shot him since it establishes how dangerous balefire is, and shows that Moiraine's leveled up after getting beaten badly by a forsaken in book 1.

I can agree with 1, more conflicted on 2 and 3. I do think there would be some value in making Demandred and Sammael one character, I know it seems too big a change since those 2 are among the biggest forsaken, but they are quite similar, great battle stagiest who hates LTT and we can have Sammael's arc exactly as is but instead of killing him he escapes and we later find out he had plan B in Shara, it makes for one awesome villain and would make the shara reveal even more powerful!

Between portal stones or the ways, I’d go the ways 100 per cent. Seems to me they would be powerful in a visual medium-the drama of that darkness and risk to the characters, listening for the winds coming up behind you, races through the dark by lantern light ... that could make for some really great sequences, with the right director in charge .

This is late - but here's a solution to the Padan Fain later-books problem that also heightens the stakes concerning another character: Fain stays the EXACT same in books 1-4. After he Fain fails his mission in the Two Rivers...we get the reveal of Slayer as Luc who kills Fain on orders from the Dark One (as his assassin). Now there's no missing/meandering/pointless Fain storylines. And Luc can be inserted as Perrin's main foe much earlier and with more malevolence. Thoughts?

I would love to see Thakan'dar early on maybe the end of season 1 showing the shadow really start to mobilize and begin the machinations for the Last Battle. If we do go there early on though, they need to have a separate location for the red veiled Aiel. I think Rand's "insanity" with Lews Therin inside his head could be done much more literal. Have an actor who's Lews Therin and of course only Rand can see him and it's not till they are in the box do they ever lock eyes. Lews Therin can seize the power from Rand in a very literal and visually appealing way, essentially shoving him out of the way while Rand is trying to channel to do it himself. You have Lews Therin standing strong and proud wielding the one power while Rand is prone on the ground watching in horror/amazement. I dunno, a voice in your head is great on paper but on the screen I don't think it would play as well. I think it could add some more depth to Rand, Lews Therin as well as everyone who has to deal with the two of them.

For plotline reductions, I think that the Shaido arc could drop to background levels after the use of the "fool boxes", the Prophet arc could be an anonymous background story, and Bayle and Egeanin had lots of prominence for no critical story impact.

Feel like it should also be mentioned, the Ways are actually important to certain plot points. Think of the places the Trollocs get to because of them, there's at least 2 that are very important where they can't get to without the Ways. The only way to get around it would be to change how Traveling works, which would have so many ramifications for the rest of the series. Portal Stones are cool, but could confuse viewers as to why they even exist.

Without Aviendha the Aiel wouldn't be part of the Dragon's Peace. Without her the Aiel would have gone to war with the Seanchan, without her Elayne wouldn't have been as willing to share Rand with Min.

Not sure I'd skip the bowl of the winds, maybe. But I think that the Seafolk pretty much add nothing. You have both Rand and the Tower negotiating with them, but they seem to be lost after that. As a whole, they don't add much to the story. The Kin definitely have a bigger impact than the Seafolk.

I personally think Aviendha plays a huge role in introducing Aiel to Rand as well as the readers. She brings that exotic untamed beauty to the series which intrigues you more. And with her being a warrior as well will bring more male viewers into the show. Sorry if I sound like a creep or a misogynist. She is also such a powerful channeler that will bring balance in the eventual fight with the Chosen.

Since they are keeping Fain they have to keep the Ways, The portal stones are only used what 3 times. 1st with Salen she could easily show up in The Ways to help. 2nd fucking up the travel to Falem that could be something like the ways or maybe they do use the stones that one time and decide never to again. 3rd headed to the Waist could be an accidental travel since hes going to figure out traveling in the Waist anyway.

Yes and no. Yes to the idea of bringing in content to season 1 that is present in both New Spring, The Eye of the World, and The Great Hunt. Based off of information including casting announcements we do know New Spring content will be in season 1. I and others don't think packing 2+ books of content into 8 hours is a very good idea as it would likely mean large departures from the original story. As for the ending hook for Season 1 of WOT on Prime I currently think it will be mainly 3 events: Event 1 attack on Fal Dara escape of Fain theft of Horn and Dagger. Event 2 Min tells the party of her oracular visions, what she sees around them. I currently think Min will be introduced in Fal Dara and will be Shienaran or a Borderlander of some sort instead of Andoran and introduced at Baerlon. Event 3 Seanchan invasion of Toman Head reveal. However it's all speculation leaving the only sure way to know being WAFO (watch and find out)

I feel like a lot of the plotlines that tended to drag in the books could be streamlined in the show. Especially Perrin chasing after Faile, Mat and company with the circus caravan, Elayne winning the throne of Andor, etc. I actually think a lot of those plotlines would work better in a show format because there's visuals, music, acting, and such that can communicate as much as a wall of text if it's done right.

Rafe absolutely has to fix the pacing during the slog... The threat from Shayol Ghul / last battle almost disappears for far too long, as do the forsaken. I'd love to see the book plots truncated significantly, and devote more time to what the forsaken are up to.

I know this video is a week old but just from scrolling I haven't seen one of my thoughts (others like Failes kidnapping have been mentioned) but they need to either expand on or condense the Snakes and Foxes. Viewer wise having two different races that only physically appear 3 times (only twice for both) could be confusing to some...they need to be given a slightly bigger role/ Maybe more people visiting them? or be condensed into maybe just the one Fox race....and maybe just what happens be tied to what color the doors are? Like you get answers from the red door but the blue door gives you wishes....something needs to be changed about them since their so important to Mat and Moiraine, but I can't really come up with the exact thing that needs to change about them.

One of my favorite things about the first book is how you get to see an explore this massive rich world from just the perspectives of the Emond's Fielders, you get to discover everything along with them, and I hope they keep that. I don't want them to be cutting away to Tar Valon for Aes Sedai plotting during the EotW plot, keep it a mystery!

I agree about having only one forsaken at the end of eye of the world. I wouldn’t be too upset cutting aginor and balthamel either, although I think their backstory is cool and I love the plot lines of them being given new bodies and infiltrating the rebel aes Sendai and ashaman. I think that could could be utilized as a really good twist on screen, even if it’s done with different forsaken. Also, I never felt much for Sammael and was a bit underwhelmed with his downfall in a battle between rand. Rand crossing bale fire with Morridin is important and the battle in shadar logoth would be rad to see, but maybe he could be combined with another forsaken too? I don’t want to lose those elements of the story, but it’s seems like a plausible change. Maybe I feel this way due to the battle with rhavin feing so epic and a huge character moment for rand. Sammaels battle was just not on that level. Tough decisions 🤔

I haven't finished the books so I don't really know yet how the relationship works, but I've heard it suggested to make the girls also more romantically involved with each other to make it less harem-y. For example by adding an explicit Elayne-Aviendha romance. Without going into much detail, do you think that could work?

@@SirStrangefolk I think that might work, but they could even just amp up the friendship relationship to the level that First-Sisters seems to represent in Aiel culture and emphasize that, and a romantic relationship could work, but I personally think the friendship and first-sister relationship dynamics make for very interesting and entertaining plot points and as long as the show is entertaining and adheres to the vibe of the books I think that's the most important thing

I think offing Fain early has far more advantages. He needs to live long enough to get to wound Rand as in Crown of Swords (I think, you know the bit), because Damer Flinn's Healing - where an Aes Sedai failed - is really important to shifting the perceived balance of power between the White and Black tower. But after that... I dunno, maybe the Forsaken decide, or are told, that Fain has to die (unpredictable 3rd party), and they set the gholam on him. Gives Fain the time to do everything he needs to do in the plot, then kills him off and introduces a new, differently dangerous enemy. Who - since Fain can't channel - will still have a surprise in store for the uninitiated viewer.

@@rinokumura7371 Make him someone new, or, i've heard some Booktubers (maybe Dusty Wheel??) say that Ishamael should be left until later in the series, because Rand's initial defeat of him is so easy. Or, you could say that people can be brought back, but that the cost to the Dark One is great in doing that/he's made weak and therefore it's rare. It would cut down on the plot hole of why dark friends aren't brought back from the dead all the time.

I'd shift Perrin's conflict with the Shaido to Masema as he tries to convince this fanatic to work with him but builds up to an actual conflict between them, this can further show a side of the negatives of Ta'avern and maybe how Rand has changed by showing how he deals with these people doing awful things in his name. This could also be used to introduce White Cloaks Perrin's story without the trial if they are hunting the Dragonsworn and Perrin's army is caught in the middle of the two

the Ways stays, hands down! They are a direct impact of the Breaking so they're needed. Shadar Logoth is necessary for Rand's second biggest achievement, and Fain drives the plot of Great Hunt! But I think the latter can be killed around the time of Winds o Winter without much being changed. Aviendha is... hmmmm. good question. Her foray into the Rhuidean rings is illuminating, if the show gets that far. Aginor and Balthamel are weak, true. so is the guy from Tear.... what's his name again? Be'lal? what I want added: I want the Seanchan ending better addressed. The leashes, the slavery, the racism. The bombshell about the Leash holders being Channelers, and the Empress herself being one. They are an evil too, no matter how bad they try to portray in the end that "Eh, maybe they're not so bad after all!"

perrin should have a whole redemption arc with the Children. the Aiel catch Faile, the Children (maybe Galad) find the Aiel the same time that Perrin does, they free everybody and Perrin dreams (or Faile convinces him) that he needs to go with the Children back to Amador for a mandatory recall issued by the Lord Commander for retasking.

This may or may not be controversial but the one thing that I hope for in WOT on Prime is that they embrace some of the LGBT relationships that could have been but Jordan didn't embrace them because of the times. Instead of getting rid of Elayne and Aviendha, have them fall in love with each other instead. Really go into the fact that Moiraine and Siuan loved each other. Siuan Sanche is a bi-con and no one can tell me otherwise.

Especially because when you read New Spring it kind of gives off the idea that they might have carried on after they gained the shawl. Did you not read the books? Aginor becomes Corlan Dashiva, and Balthamel become Halima. Both Forsaken play a significant role in the character development of main characters (Rand and Egwene).

I don't see the menagerie getting cut. It's a tv show, they need visuals. A circus is a great opportunity for a visual feast. I think the mistake people make is in thinking that a plot in the books has to take up the same amount of relative time on the show. A lot of these things could be severely condensed and still be there. The Faile kidnapping could be one or two short scenes over the course of a few episodes. When you think about how much in-world time things actually take compared to how we perceive time passing in a visual medium it changes everything. Isn't there one book that only covers like a weeks worth of actual time? That can be half an episode. They won't show people reacting to the cleansing in a different season, that will all happen at once. You can knock out several books worth of content by actually have things happening at the same time.

Totally agree. What people often overlook is that a page worth of words describing how someone reacts to a situation can be shown in under 6 seconds. There are plenty of plot points through out the series that can be shown and still be impactful, but only take a mere fraction of screen time.
