I got a couple of 24” by 1” metal pieces, like a yardstick, with holes every inch. Attached them to the broken handle before and after the break, like a splint. Got 2 years out of that, now going to replace handles.

Great DIY! Still, with a little more work, you could be using this barrow for decades. You had it mostly apart. By taking it all apart you could wire brush away all the rust and prime and paint the entire tray. Take the tire off the wheel and wire brush the rust off the wheel, prime and paint. (Rust is what causes tires to go flat, often. The tire cant make good contact with the wheel). Prime and paint all the wood before putting everything together. Grease or oil the bolt threads to avoid rust and difficulty removing bolts the next time. If you had to cut off bolts, replace the hardware with galvanized. Well, that's what you need to do for a barrow after 5-10 years to keep it rolling for decades. But everyone should inspect the condition of their barrow at least annually. Is the tray or wheel starting to rust? Does the wood need to be treated or painted to avoid rot (One You Tuber said he painted on old motor oil) Grease or oil the bolts to minimize rust that will prevent you from disassembling the barrow when that is needed. Is it CHEAPER to just ignore maintenance until the barrow fails, and replace it with another? I'd say it's more expensive if you follow the annual inspection/maintenance I suggest, which needn't take long. Replacing involves time for shopping and ASSEMBLY, cash out, driving and so on. Assembly of a new barrow takes something like the time needed to do an overhaul. Besides, if you maintain your barrow, it will treat you well. You will take pride in it and taking care of it really wont be much of a chore. I just rebuilt my old barrow which I had neglected for thirty years. It was in poor shape, which took time to repair. But now I'm an enthusiast, and plan to treat it like an old friend for years to come. There are also various improvements that can be made to an old barrow, which might include adding a couple of additional wheels in the back, or reinforcements for additional strength. Decorations could personalize your equipment if you find that attractive. I just brushed on Kilz primer and then brushed on house paint, all of which I had on hand. It was a fun project, and easy to do. Why buy new and miss out on the fun and adventure of restoring your faithful family retainer to useful service?

Update, I was not able replace the wooden handle on the wheelbarrel so I had to purchase a new one from Home Depot. Thank you for your help!

How much did you pay for the 2 wooden handle VS price or original wheel barrel with the 2 handles included?

They were only $15/20 . I got this wheel barrow for free but a new one would be $50+ easily .
