All jaguars since the E-Type have hardened valve seats so can run on Unleadeded.

Didn't Jaguar start putting catalytic converters on gas powered cars in 1975? Isn't lead bad for those? 😊
@mikegulf200910 ай бұрын
Additive protects the seats not the alloy head. There's no need for additive in an XJ6 as, like all XK engines, it has hardened valve seats.

@@Tigerfire75 On North American spec probably, but not on UK spec until early 90s. We didn't have unleaded available until the late 80s. Because aluminium isn't a suitable valve seat material, all such heads had inserts from factory, capable of running unleaded. it was only cast iron heads that required valve seats to be retro fitted when leaded petrol became unavailable in 2000.

The lead was used to cushion the valve seats when the engine was running. If you used unleaded fuel in a leaded engine, valve recession can occur. Unfortunately, the only to convert it to unleaded is by redoing the head by inserting hardened valve seats to solve the issue. Also they had to stop leaded fuel because of emissions laws and because the leaded fuel ended up destroying the catalytic converters on cars.

What a lovely shape of car they were.. Remember a friend had a US shipped CA car in 2003. It overheated and got a chevy engine fitted. Great memories on holidays when visiting him was white also with white wall tyres man.

Starting one I bought was an massive massive task, new tanks and put lining inside the tank to prevent future rust. Now import task is sorting out electrical and that is not an easy thing I tell you

Very misleading title. It should say 'Elvis replaces the rusted fuel tanks of a 1976 Series 2 Jaguar XJ6'. Edd has in 2021 (I think) restored the inside of the fuel tank of an original 1986 Land Rover Range Rover.

What happened to the fuel tanks ?
@RaggedyAtom5 ай бұрын
That's what happens when you have nasty old fuel in a fuel tank for 30 years. It literally turns into rusty water and destroys the fuel tank. Always a good idea when working on a project car to do a flush on the tank, or just replace it if it's beyond repair.

8:58 Look at that filler, where the sill meets the rear wheel arch. And who titles these videos? The fuel tanks went in the bin, to be replaced rather than restored.

He could give a try on petrol made by IPIRANGA, the OCTAPRO. I mean I have one or 2 v8 in Europe and 1 in USA and so far comparing premium gasolines available that Octapro won any v8 enjoy a + 108 octanes. But hey is the only gas worthy in Brazil. I keep importing it to Galicia since is where I spend most of the time.

Great idea. Unless someone crashes into the rear quarters.

Been there - bought an S3 with a blown head gasket, cheap. I didn't recognize the body work on the driver's rear quarter; they'd left it dinged in and bondo'd over it. Was fun pulling the tank down.

Elvis you’re putting the wheel nuts on the wrong way around . The tapered end should go inwards to centre the wheel on the studs ….

Lol --- at 3:15, Elvis is pumping the accelerator - what does he hope to achieve? These cars have SUs, which do not have an accelerator pump...

If the fuel was so old and as combustible as porridge why would he be so worried about fire risk? Maybe he was just talking with out saying anything

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime...:_(

Bay the way that car had a very bad cheap repaint job ... and that explains why it was so easy to remove the bumper and the tank side covers Roofliner is hanging loose in few spots It's a jaguar with a Daimler front grille And it's leaking oil from engine rear seals And gear box.. And most probably from the steering wheel rack... 😊

It’s a Jaguar not a jag. If the car should catch fire the quickest way to smoother the fire would be to get mike to sit on it.
