Whelen Xecutor-1

Whelen discontinued Xecutor-1, this model did not come with a control head, user supplied his own switches. 2 tones, wail and airhorn. Claimed output of 126 dba @ 10 feet, twice the SPL of a mechanical Q siren.

We have this Whelen siren tone on two of our Apparatus. But it's the standard pre recorded ramp up and fall. You can ramp it slightly using the manual button.. Unlike this now discontinued Xecuter siren. This is an awsome display! Nice work!!

No, the 12Q was a different Whelen siren although the mechanical siren tones are similar. The Xecutor with 1 speaker 100 watts, 2 speakers 130 watts, but has a higher db output with one speaker (the unique Xecutor speaker) than most other 200 watt sirens.

I can't wait to get mine back from Whelen's repair dept! I plan on making a demo, complete with all the other tones. Nice video. Really conveys the awesomeness of these units!

No, this is a Xecutor-1, the -2 model has the extra tones and a control head. Internally they are exactly the same, the only difference is the programming of an IC chip.

@cweis127 I believe it was a marketing decision. The Xecutor-1 listed for $1854.00 and the Xecutor-2 $2570.00. I think sales were not there to support continuing the siren. Originally it was only available with the large, heavy (32 lbs.) Xecutor speaker that limited it to larger vehicles. Later they sold it as the Xecutor Jr. that was sold without the speaker but it did not help. The siren design was very advance, used a class D amplifier which is expensive to manufacture. They are hard to find, Whelen quit offering them a few years ago, they are becoming collector items because of their unique sound and low current draw. I was lucky to find this one on Ebay. The Xecutor -2 did have a "bell" or ding tone.

@sentryknife Let me clarify my earlier comment concerning the 12M mechanical tone. The 12M tone in my opinion sounds nothing like the Xecutor tone BUT, to the average person they could sound very similar. You can listen to the 12M mechanical tone (note Whelen does not call it the "Xecutor tone) by going to Whelen's website and click on sirens, speakers, switches then click on listen to tones and then select " simulated mechanical tone".

Yes, you can use any 11 ohm, 100 watt siren speaker however, it was most effective with the Xecutor speaker.

If you are referring to the Alpha 12Q, they are similar but are not the same.

@sentryknife You are mistaken, the Alpha12M is a completely different siren and sounds nothing like the Xecutor wail plus the amplifier is not a class D amp.

I just checked the Whelen web site. I can't even find an electronic siren box with the old Xecutor siren tone in it. It appears that siren tone has been dropped all together?

@bresler88 They are no longer made by Whelen and are very hard to find. Because of it unique tone and class D amplifier, they are becoming collector items. I was lucky to find this one on Ebay

@cweis127 Because FedSig sued Whelen and trademarked the "Q" sound which is absurd because other electro-mechanical sirens pre-date the Q and produce similar sound (like B&M). Anyway, Whelen HAD to discontinue the Xecutor tones and the Alpha 12Q because of trademark infringement.

This should be placed on all aplliances and remove the Q. Some Toronto appliances have this.

just look for something cheap like a carson cruiser siren its 89 bucks but its just wail yelp phaser and air horn
