@@MainboardMedic Reliability is main problem here. Back in great-gpu-shortage era I fixed many GPUs with damage like this one, something I usually wouldn't waste my time on but at that time it was profitable. Most of them fail 3-6 months later. MBO will probably last longer as there is no that much stress on layers due to heat but still, I'll rather leave board like that for spare parts than even try to use it by myself.

@@gorky_vk That is a good point. You never know what happens with burn ins like this.

Great job. But, you should set your bench power supply to CC (constant current) when dealing with motherboard short-circuits.

Cooler master has a stand alone rgb controller you can connect via usb or use by itself then there is pcie sound card like creative or Asus or get a dac/amp like schiit and even type c exist as pcie cards problem salvd no big loss good thing it's atx plenty of pcie slots
@Takashita_Sukakoki9 ай бұрын
Can do a usb audio adapter and be done with it, probably cheaper too.

That would also be an option right!

In a situation like this, the audio would still work over hdmi via the CPU with the onboard audio chip removed?
@MainboardMedic8 ай бұрын
I am not to sure if the HDMI output of the CPU has its own Audio controller, but i think it should have!

Hi there buddy, I have a MSI MAG Z490 Tomahawk MS-7C80, All the USB on the rear IO dont work except the usb-c (asmedia). I seen online that there are bad components, ie, Fuses or Resistors. I am a stuck. Can you point me to the component I need to replace. There is a Polyfuse that give me a reading of 48 ohms. If you can give me a pointer to what needs replacement. I should add that I' get power on all the ports just no data. There are these 10 (5 legs on each side) legged filters or chokes, could these be the problem. I look forward to hearing from you. thnx
@MainboardMedic5 ай бұрын
Hey there, for example U17 is an ESD filter! They can go high resistance! They are fitted on almost all boards and all USB, so it should be easy to find donor parts! You might also want to check the data lines! (resistance, might be a bad PCH) Another thing that you can do is atach some USB to the USB headers on the board, so the extension pins on the bottom and see if they work!
@Rainbow__cookie9 ай бұрын
The audio chip may still work i would want to know that
@MainboardMedic9 ай бұрын
Preety sure it doesnt. It got way to hot with just 5V applied to it! Because its a very low power chip and really shouldnt heat up!

@@MainboardMedic but there are good pcie cards anyway and even usb c exists as pcie if you need it If you want the quest 2/3 that's usb c or external drives or just use as a regular usb port if you have c to c cable my audio stopped working so i have just disable it and use a Asus dgx sound card i have a msi b350 tomahawk and i used the usb c at the back with a c to c cable but i still don't get what's it's actuall use one more thing there are rgb controllers that run of the internal usb header or have its own remote/controller circuit motherboard rgb software sucks anyway so yeah you didn't loose anything important features

I see you have lots of experience with AM4 motherboards. Just a quick question, can am4 motherboards switch on without a CPU?
@MainboardMedic9 ай бұрын
They can not. The CPU act kinda like a PCH on AM4. You can short the PSON to ground and force the power supply to turn on, but the board will hardly react.

it should be standard for boards to have fuses in the rgb. Because most of the time that's where people fucked up their boards.
@MainboardMedic9 ай бұрын
Expecially because they always put fuses on USB already, why not extend it to the RGB.
@renter849 ай бұрын
Next time use thermocamera quicker. And limit the Amps ffs. Btw the only problem in a motherboard i hate the most is when there are no shorts but the board turns on for 1 sec and then powers off. It stays on when cpu power unplugged but no short there and i replaced pwm and same. What could it be?
@MainboardMedic9 ай бұрын
In my experience there is a missing voltage, when it turns off quickly without a short on the board. Most of the time a voltage wouldnt run because of knocked off components. I would start with checking 1.05V. If that wasnt the problem, i have a video where i go over a lot off the voltages that need to be present on the board. Its Called "using a repair guide".
