Pittsburgh vs Baltimore has been THE premiere rivalry in the NFL since 2000. Sure you got Brady vs Manning, but that was an individual rivalry. The Steelers and Ravens have been good consistently despite the changes in personnel. Someday I’m gonna show my future kids what games between these two teams were like.

@@franthevan65people point to 2008 because that was when the rivalry first peaked. Harbaugh/Tomlin were new faces. Lewis/Reed/Suggs and the ravens were back to contending. The Steelers were at the peak of their powers. Harrison, Polamalu, Woodley, Timmons, Ryan Clark. I know they faced off in the playoffs in 2001, but that was a different time/different teams basically.
@jimmyplenderleith9471Күн бұрын
@@franthevan65 It got started in 2000 when the Steelers were the last team to beat the Ravens that year, before they went on the run and won the SB. In 2001, both regular season games were great with Ravens winning in PGH after Steelers kicker missed 5 FG and the Steelers winning easily in BALT on a Sunday night ESPN game. They met a third time in the 2001 AFC Divisional round in PGH with the Steelers winning. The rivalry and the hatred went from there. If you really think about it though, they've been hated rivals since 70s in Cleveland.

I won't talk like a hypocrite, as a football fan, I enjoyed watching big hits. At the same time, I don't want players enduring long term injuries. I'll be honest, I can't stand watching the NFL's new kickoff rules and having to declare to the officials an onside kick. The strategies of the game have been eliminated for the sake of safer play. The Ravens vs Steelers is the last remaining rivalry which compliments and reminds us of intense NFL football.

This is either going to be a repeat of that game in 2008 or a repeat of Opening Day 2011. Although in regards to that 2008 game, the stakes are very similar. Pittsburgh comes to town with a one game lead in the AFC North, having already beaten Baltimore on a close call back at Heinz Field in the first meeting, and having the chance to lock up the division. The Ravens meanwhile having the chance to move into a tie for first place with a win. Hopefully its not the same result because if it is, it may take a while for the Ravens to recover from this given that they will not only have lost 9 of 10 to the Steelers, but watched Pittsburgh celebrate the division title at M&T as well (Hopefully the Yinzers don't invade M&T like Philly did). GAME ON EVERYBODY!

There’s just something about this rivalry that even when one team is clearly better than the other, the games turn to be close. For example, the 2015 season saw the Steelers get swept by the ravens, but the ravens didn’t even finish above .500 unlike Pittsburgh
@michaelhession210519 сағат бұрын
I know right. The crazy thing about this rivalry is that the underdog wins about 75% of the time. When the Steelers had the Killer B's there was a point where they couldn't beat the Ravens for a long period of time. And its the same here with the Ravens in the Lamar Era against the Steelers. If theres any solace for Ravens fans, its that they're one Immaculate Extension type moment or Opening Day 2011 type blowout away from changing the whole momentum of the rivalry for the next few years.

From '08 to let's say 2012-ish, these games felt like something special, they were an event that the entire country wanted to say. From WIKI - The 1958 NFL Championship Game was the 26th NFL championship game, played on December 28 at Yankee Stadium in New York City. It was the first NFL playoff game to be decided in sudden death overtime. The Baltimore Colts defeated the New York Giants 23-17 in what soon became widely known as "the Greatest Game Ever Played". As a kid I had the 45rpm record with the National Beer label of the last minutes of that game. I played it over I don't know how many times. John Unitas was almost a God here in Baltimore for years!
