One of the most addictive and mesmerizing channels is Cole the Cornstar. A young guy, fifth generation farmer completely gutting, expanded and rebuilding his great great grandfather’s farm house and farm. He bought/inherited the farm from his grandfather who was a hoarder...in the house, in the many outbuildings and literal tons of “stuff” all over the “yard”. I redid my bathroom about 5 years ago. I took everything out and spent almost 3k doing it myself and that was with nearly option being the cheapest material. My only regret was that I didn't replace the old cast iron bathtub. It was a TON of work and I was beyond proud of the results. My favorite thing was building a custom vanity out of 3/4" plywood. I made it extra tall for me as I'm 5'10 1/2 and regular vanity height hurts my back. It was also the same reason why I raised my shower head height by almost 2 feet so I don't have to duck down to take a shower. Most folks that have never done a full gut remodel of a bathroom really don't understand the amount of hard work, time and money that goes into doing the job. You did a fantastic job on your bathroom!

When my hubby was a young man, one of his first jobs was working as part of a contractor's construction crew. It was very hard work. It taught him a lot about what goes into fixing a place up, as well as instilling a lot of caution about the scale such projects take in terms of time and money.

Well done. I was particularly glad it was mentioned that many people just cannot afford things. So many videos online assume people have so much and yet plenty are very short of money. My sister came to my house last weekend for the first time in a long time and she said one of the biggest differences between her house and mine was in every room of hers there is something that needs to be fixed - she has broken showers except for one and all sorts and it is always of course about money. In my case I can afford repairs (although am content with things like a 40 year old bathroom and carpets). It did just remind me that so very many people cannot afford to fix things. This is the first year for 40years I have not had to support at least one child and the tasks I did this year with a bit of spare money were all very boring things to do with basic upkeep of the house.

I’ve been painting at home like crazy. You are such an inspiration. I never used primer until watching your videos and can’t get enough of you doing your house up. Well done you’re a star in this house.

I love when you shout out channels that I have already found - simpatico! Your house is really shaping up. Love the rounded bookshelves and the skulls!

I don’t know how I find the time but always enjoy watching major yard and lawn care, heavy duty house cleanings, the pressure washings, the carpet cleaners, even the pimple popping .. I find a lot of relaxation from watching something, anything, be ‘aggressively’ cleaned. 😂

Great job, there is always the glitch in any renovation. My small bathroom was renovated 20 years ago and still looks and functions like new, kept to classics, don’t have the money to be trendy. It was done by a single guy and cost $5k. I can’t imagine what it would cost now. Thank you Mack, hoping you are feeling better.😘

One other KZbin channel that I can recommend is Flawless Cleaning Services - Ben works in the UK and helps mostly older people. He has done some amazing jobs.

I live in the Sacramento area. Our library has a "library of things" that you can check out. Items range from 3D printers to garden tools to circular saws etc. I know not all libraries do this, but if you need a tool and can't afford to buy it it's worth looking into. I've also had luck asking to borrow tools on Nextdoor. Thank you Mack for showing your process, you give me confidence to try more home improvement projects than I would have been comfortable with before! Edit to add: I agree "just gutting it isn't always possible." My comment is about me being excited to try something that I can't afford to pay someone to do. Then thinking about not having to pay for all the tools makes it more possible.

I've lived in multiple cities in the US over the last few years. Every one of them had a makers' space, at the least, where you could do 3D printing, use sewing machines & sergers, etc. They're such a wonderful, and under-utilized, resource!

Wow. What a time of change in your life. New house and renovations, becoming a grandfather, and soon, approaching a million subscribers on KZbin. I think this upcoming year is going to be a big one for you. It was really satisfying seeing you transform this bathroom. I can't wait to see what the rest of the house brings.

It’s awesome to know you have a good employee but an awesome boss that cares about you! It’s very rare nowadays but so awesome to see! You’re an awesome boss and a hard worker. Good for you for taking time off when you needed it the most.

i just started watching this channel and I really like it :3 I have severe depression and my adhd makes it even harder for me to get up and clean my room so watching videos like this really helps me. i usually clean while listening to this sort of video. I'm autistic too and I love cleaning but I struggle to clean for myself. I'm 16 and I think its lovely that I can relate to someone from an entirely different generation.

I love the work you are doing at home. Your home is your palace which you have earned. Remember, you come first,.Finishing this project will be your total release from mental, physical, and stress. It means so much that you and your son have this bonding, something he came past onto his new family. Grand-fathers can help as well.

Really amazing transformation! Thanks for taking us along on the journey and so looking forward to see it becoming a home! As far as the expense goes, we have lived with and in renovations and the bathrooms and kitchens are always the most expensive and the hardest to live in and work around. The gift for you is your skill, but I know it's still stressful. Please take care of yourself!
