What people don't understand about Tyson is how technically good he was. Yes he had hands like anvils, yes he was lightning quick, but he was also one of the best technical fighters the boxing world has ever seen. His style was a straight artists playlist of the best in history from Marciano to Ali. And pre Don King he was actually very chill.

I grew up when Tyson was in his prime boxing career, even watching the Holyfield fight at the skating ring when I was 16. Tyson was known for extremely fast KOs, most were faster than the national anthem, and God forbid you paid for pay per view, because you paid a lot of money for a 10 sec fight most times lol.

I listened to an extended documentary on Tyson and how he became the best. A little known fact was that he owned his own streets, he was the guy willing to fight anyone... even someone bigger than him. But also there was hidden rage, not a chip on his shoulder, but a dark shadow that he was molested in elementary school and felt powerless, shame and disappointed in himself for doing nothing to stop it. In his pro career, he never said it, but I believe he imagines his opponent as payback and he becomes a freight train of pain. Tyson will always be a legend.

I was a teenager during the Tyson era and it's hard to describe the mystique he had. Before his loss to Douglas, which was stunning, he was basically Superman. We didn't watch fights to see who would win, we watched to see how badly Tyson would beat them. By the time he got to Douglas, we believed he was essentially invincible. I was a little kid during Ali's later career, and I had only heard the name George Foreman. I didn't know who he was. Now I know that Tyson was essentially Foreman 2.0. Foreman had the same mystique when Ali beat him in the Rumble in the Jungle. Foreman just demolished people. He had a total of 68 knockouts compared to Tyson's 44. But Foreman was a big guy (6'3") with a long reach (78"). Tyson did it as a much smaller guy (5'10") with a 71" reach.

That's part of MMA's appeal. The tactics. Usually, a muscle-bound guy is exactly that. 'Muscle-bound'. Lousy if they're a hitter, but they need reach for impact. Get in close, tenderize abs until can strike diaphragm. Ground game bad. Will use abs. Unless tenderized. Target weak shoulder. There's always a weak shoulder. Some twisting, some leverage...

Youngest Champion EVER. I learned about Mike on a 24 Mike Tyson boxing marathon... I get chills watching this man. Grown professionals FEARED this man and you could see it in their eyes. MANY of those first 19 KO's were inside the first 3 rounds... What MANY don't know about the Holyfield ear bite was that Tyson did it because Holyfield was a known head clasher and used his head as a weapon. He DESTORYED peoples head before and had headbutted Tyson a couple times that fight tying to cut him.

@Pᴀᴡɴ S𝜏ᴀʀ𝕤 ✯🇫ᴀɴ You can claim whatever you want about about your opinion of his "unintentional headbutts". I'm telling you what multiple people (PROFESSIONAL BOXERS) said about Holyfield. Holyfield lead many exchanges with his head that fight. He was a known headbutter. You saying they didn't happen often shows you didn't watch him much. Check out the headbutt/low blow combo on Michael Dokes OR the Rahman hematoma to name JUST 2 others.

@Pᴀᴡɴ S𝜏ᴀʀ𝕤 ✯🇫ᴀɴ No. Most boxers try not to roll back their neck to do a headbutt. They initiate the headbutt by tucking their chin snugly against their chest so they can strike with the top of their head, where the cranium is hardest.

it's really amazing to see Mike Tyson fight. He was short, and didn't have as much reach as many of his opponents had, but moved like a blur in the ring and could close the distance to deliver massive torque in his punches, particularly that left hook of his. Watching Tyson slip punches like it was an art form was incredible for a heavyweight. Mike Tyson is someone I wouldn't fight even if he were on his deathbed.
@oneandzero6251
@oneandzero6251 2 жыл бұрын
From what I have read, being short and having short limbs can be an advantage. Especially when you have muscle mass and speed as Tyson. First of all, it is easier to dodge and quickly change direction with a shorter body. Secondly: Tyson can reach his maximum power in a shorter distance than someone with long limbs. And Tyson was basically fearless, he tried to always close the distance between him and the opponent. So that those with longer limbs would have a harder time to maximize their power output. Test it out yourself, at what lenght do you feel your arms reach the maximum punching power? To me, it is pretty much when fully extended. There is a big misconception that being taller is an advantage in fights. Especially boxing. The rules might change in different types of combat sports (kicks, grappling etc)

I have so many videos to recommend. They’re movies and documentaries on Tyson, so it’s not something you would necessarily react to. But, man, I ADORE mike Tyson. I wish more could see how wonderful of a person he is. Mike Tyson came from nothing, but he always had such a pure innocent heart. He’s so appreciative and grateful for all of his experiences. Cus ‘D’Amato took interest in him bc of his boxing abilities,and when his mom died became his legal guardian (his father wasn’t in the picture). Cus D’Amato trained and told him he was the best and could take over the world, and Mike trusted and believed him. Just watch any Mike Tyson interviews and watch documentaries, you’ll now only see how amazing he is, he’s truly inspirational, and you’ll just learn a lot philosophically. Mike Tyson is very intelligent. He has clearly explored the roots of all of his flaws. Another telling fact about Tyson, he doesn’t like fighting, he’s never liked it. He’s cried before every fight. He’s a gentle giant. I would love to work for him as an assistant of sorts, just so I can ask questions! Love him!!!

George Foreman and Mike Tyson are my two favorite boxers, but it was the early Tyson. Back when they fought, it was no nonsense. Just go in there and swing. Tyson was quick and powerful. Foremen swung tree trunks around the ring. I was him knock a guy out through the guy's own fists. The guy had his gloves up in front of his face and George just plowed those gloves into his face. I was never a big guy, but even if I was I wouldn't want to face either of them. Good reaction. Stay healthy, stay safe.

Tyson is beast, unique persona and a tragic career and life story. He could have had the greatest career ever but there were outside and personal influences that did screw it up. You should look at some videos of Rocky Marciano. The man used to knock fighters teeth into their gums. A hammer instead of a fist, a powerful neck, a fighter's rage. He beat his adversary to blood, then hugged him. The only athlete in the history of heavyweight boxing to retire undefeated after defending the title six times.

To this day, there has not been one single fighter as intimidating as prime Tyson. Crazy you posted this, because about an hour ago I commented on a video Michael Bisping just made where he ranks the top 5 scariest UFC fighters. It was a valid list, but none of them are even close to prime Tyson. Francis Nngannou, Brock Lesnar, Shane Carwin, etc. all made other fighters extra cautious because of their insane power. Prime Tyson made his opponents looks like they're about to sh1t their pants. You can literally see the terror in their eyes when they get in the ring. And these were world class, elite, heavyweight boxers. His speed and explosiveness were God tier.

MT fights turned me into a boxing fan. His fights were so exciting (and mercifully shortfor any opponent he had) it was just unreal. His fights rarely lasted passed the 4th round. I swear you could watch his whole boxing career in one afternoon.

In his Prime nobody had the smallest chance against Tyson. He was a killer in the ring

I grew up watching tyson fights. That man was a beast. Very technical and hands down the hardest hitter in boxing history. Even foreman said he was glad he didn't ever have to fight him.
