I made a pretty decent deck out of the Dragons Collide structure deck, but hardly ever won cause this was the time of wind-ups and six samurai. My interactions were a mixed bag. Had people help me with my strategies and one guy even “traded” me (took some garbage cards off my hands) some tuners and a prismatic Stardust dragon. However the same guy scammed my friend out of an $80 card for something that was worth a dollar. Guess he liked me better.

I used to play Yugioh tournaments when I was a little kid (6-9 years old), most of my opponents were adults. I used to get 1st or 2nd pretty frequently at Toys-R-Us and other local card shops. It was really fun and I look back on those experiences fondly. Unfortunately the scene was mostly (~95%) adults at most tournaments, and I was frequently bullied or had my cards stolen. Some adults were even creepy enough to ask me to go places with them, though I never did. My dad did protect me from some creeps and bullies but he was participating too. He used Yugioh to teach me math and often asked me to keep track of the life points of 1-3 matches at once in my head.

Back during Eternal format, there was two kids playing together at locals (we didn't mind at all that they were playing as a duo). They had a barely functionning Salam deck. All of the player let them get games here and there. We all won the matches, but at least they were happy to win some rounds, even if we knew it was rigged. Then all of us gave them like 50 cards to improve their decks. They even got pretty expensive cards for free. And some other Salam players gave them tips on how to improve their own decks and strategies. That was pretty wholesome, one of my favorite locals ever.
