When Reese sees his reflection, that is definitely one of his best screaming moments on the show😂

I miss when shows and commercials used homes and sets that looked ‘lived-in’ like this. TV shows have these spotless, ultra modern and up-to-date look in almost every sitcom that always feels so out of touch to the characters represented and their income.

I miss days when you actually got shows like these. Nowadays, almost every comedy show/series is a sitcom.
@offscreen6578 Жыл бұрын
To be fair, most sitcoms throughout all of time had those up-to-date clean houses. It was mostly just Roseanne and this show that managed to make a family home look the part.

@@ChallengerBanX Malcolm in the Middle is from the 2000s
@SpudSpudoni Жыл бұрын
@@ChallengerBanX I mean, you're not wrong in your definition, but I don't think it hits the point I was making. It's not about *where* they lived, but in the *way* they lived in these shows. In the 2000s there were plenty of more well-to-do casts of characters in shows, and their homes reflected that, sure. And Malcolm in the Middle certainly wasn't the first show depicting a family in a more "common" home. The Adventures of Pete and Pete is a show which arrived before that I think walked so Malcolm in the Middle could run, and 'The Middle' arrived after that punctuated that era. But there's more to that style of set direction than just the shows on television. Commercials also took a very similar approach in the late 90s, early 2000s. Plenty of cereal, toy, art commercials had a more lived-in look in those days. But it was also a sign of the times too. The 80s consumerism boom, with a real decade economic growth, allowed the 90s to be at the pinnacle of materialism. 80s was a decade that advertised to children more-so than any decade prior, but it wasn't until the 90s that toys really took over the shelves in grand scale. Families had more income to spend, and spending was the zeitgeist. Shows like Malcom in the Middle, commercials in that era, etc knew how to fill the frame with "stuff". "Cluttercore" as some might say today, to reinforce the filming location as a home well lived in. In the late 2010s, and now 2020s, we've shifted far more towards minimalism in our approach to products and spending habits, and our homes reflect that. So does our media. In might be a matter of opinion, but the way our media now, especially commercials, reflect this almost sterile living space with spotless counters and perfect lighting conditions through the windows, creates a very sterile and controlled environment that is the antithesis to the era I brought up.

@American chick Of course they would do it, they both tortured him through his childhood and it was shown in various episodes. In fact in one episode Dewey escapes to Francis because of it and complains how horrible childhood he had because Francis wasn't there (not knowing Francis did the same thing to Reese and Malcom). That said Dewey (especially later seasons Dewey) could get back at them, albeit that's no different than relationship between Malcolm and Reese which also had at 2 episodes where their conflict escalated because they kept getting back at each other. The only two reasons I could see is one which you've stated that they wanted a challenge. Another reason being perhaps they didn't trust themselves to team up against Dewey thinking that would turn against another either during or after gluing Dewey.

Hal and Lois couldn't afford the expenses to pay for another bed. With each boy in the house being destructive and reckless in their own way, the hospital and insurance bills piled up. Most of the time, the boys have shown to be the direct cause of Hal and Lois's financial issues due to the fact they couldn't resist fighting and pranking each other without some damages to the house or more likely themselves. Plus, a few episodes has also proven that Hal and Lois are terrible at money management and often fell behind on bills. Their priorities were often on their own romantic dates and sex.
