A bunch of us watched Ferris Beuller's Day Off back in the 80's. When the movie finished there was the usual rush to leave the theatre, so some of us stayed behind to miss the crush. We saw Ferris Beuller address us, telling us to leave! We told our other mates, but they thought we made it up! Since then I have always watched a movie to the end of the credits and beyond, hoping for that sweet surprise.

At the end of Pretty in Pink, John Cryer turns and looks at the camera after seeing that a hot girl is checking him out. That is the only time in the movie that the audience is acknowledged. I always thought it was strange.

I never imagined Hermione saying that (6:36) to any audience (4th wall break), and I must've seen this movie a dozen times! If you want another example, look no further than two iconic TV shows! Get Smart & Gilligan's Island! Both Don Adams as Maxwell Smart and Alan Hale jr. as The Skipper frequently broke the 4th wall and looked at the camera (audience). AND you have to include all the "Road" pictures with Bob Hope & Bing Crosby!! Every one of them broke the 4th wall!!

Still love that Mel Brooks went to George Lucas to ask if he could do a satire of Star Wars with the leading man being like Han Solo. Lucas said as long as you don't dress him like Han Solo it's fine, so Brooks dressed him like Indiana Jones.

Breaking the wall in a comedy, especially a Mel Brooks comedy, doesn't really count. That's part of their schtick. Breaking the wall effectively in a drama, now that takes creativity.

SPOILER ALERT! about amazing korean movie "Memories of Murder". Final scene (year 2003 at the time when the killer is not still not caught yet). Former detective Park is now a father and a businessman. As he is passing by the crime scene in the morning he decides to pay a visit. He sees a little girl who claims she saw the killer and describes his features. The film ends with Park looking straight into the camera directly into all of us viewers, meaning that the killer was most likely an “ordinary” man like me and you, someone with family, a job, someone that the community would never suspect.
