1:10:45 What you're describing here is not a railgun but a coilgun. Railguns don't have the timing issue: the electrically conductive projectile accelerates itself through a constant magnetic field because it's carrying a sideways current (between the two "rails"). Coilguns are (in theory) much better because they don't require physical or electrical contact between the weapon and the projectile, but the timing really is tricky; it's a research coming later in the tree!
@Maeyanie4 ай бұрын
Yeah, railguns and coilguns/Gauss guns are quite significantly different, in their base physics, implementation problems, and the type of weapon they're optimized to produce (higher velocity vs. higher projectile mass). I'd kind of expect someone who had worked with one would know the difference, but apparently not. 😄

I love the vibe this game gives of being a minor civilization inside of Aurora 4X (or Stellaris) and having the unfortunate luck of the aliens that jump in for first contact are... this type of player.

31:10 turning councillors appears so easy that I would get SUPER paranoid about the AI (or the AIliens) doing it back. Though I realize you have been periodically checking your people and running inspires to (hopefully) top up their loyalty
@rogerhill9559Ай бұрын
Always gotta spam out that inspire in the first three years. Once your guys are all 25 loyalty your pretty safe, especially if you cull hostile factions periodically (assassinate their high level councilors).
@frantisekvrana39024 ай бұрын
1:10:30 Wouldn't that make it a coil gun, rather than a rail gun? I thought railguns used electrically charged rails that pump current through the conductive projectile, pushing it. Coil guns pull a magnetic projectile forward using magnetic fields. 1:44:40 Switching to paper straws actively worsens the situation. Now, rather than having one straw that you use over and over, you have to make a new one every time. Instead, switch to stainless steel straws. Those are nearly indestructible and can be safely boiled in for sterilization.
@debott45384 ай бұрын
Regarding the straw statement, the simple respone is "it depends". Plastic straws are often used one-way, and thus contribute to pollution more than ones made out of paper do. In the EU we recently introduced a regulation for one-way plastic, including cutlery. Since then glas straws have become very common in restaurants, or sometimes metals ones, as you say. :)

1:18:55 The amount of control points in a nation is directly defined by the nations GDP. There are some hard coded thresholds at which a nation gains or loses one CP, to a maximum of six. In this case, Canada broke through the 2.4T$ threshold between 3 and 4 CP. Gaining a CP has some minor advantages but the nation also becomes much more costly to hold (+33% in this case), to the point that it's not worth it. This is why investing into econonmy is not a good practice in well developed countries like Canada. In fact, in most cases it is recommendable to shrink the economy and lose a CP when possible.

Aliens burn off their hate by blowing stuff up. As long as you are prepared to lose some stuff and rebuild, there is not too much issue to being a little aggressive towards them and letting the hate meter yo-yo a bit.

Your Mission Control raises their hate floor. If you keep on rebuilding it they will continue to attack it. You can lower the impact of MC on hate with tech

Been awhile since i played but as recall space presence affects the alien hostility as well. Thats why you ussual wanna stay quiet untill you have decent space defenses. I'm pretty sure once it's up the only thing that helps is just letting the alliens destroy your habs and laying low for awhile.
@debott45384 ай бұрын
You're right. But staying quiet until decent space defenses is a bit of a logical fallacy, as space defenses are inherently 'loud'. ;)

Just take it easy and don't rush, eventually everything will fall into place, and you will understand the game
@TheAzrai4 ай бұрын
I feel kinda bad that he feels that he has to rush, because of stream-time constraints. It really is a slow-burn game that he can't seem to lay back and enjoy it unfold (max speed all times). He's missing out on what's going on in the world around him, etc. It's really immersive when playing without being rushed.

Is there any point to adding hydroponics or farms to any/all planet or orbital bases ?
@debott45384 ай бұрын
Absolutely. Tier 2 and especially Tier 3 space stations consume literal tons of water and volatiles. With enough space mining you may be able to compensate for that for a while, but not for long as you also need enough to supply fleets and/or expand your stations. My rule of thumb is: 2 farms per station, 3 farms if it's a population-heavy T3 station (i.e. > 6000 inhabitants, I think) So far, Quill ahs been building T2 stations with mostly T1 modules, so farm are not important yet.

Absolutely agricultural complexes are humanity's greatest weapon against the aliens
@rogerhill9559Ай бұрын
Farms (and later agricultural complexes) are basically required, otherwise you will quickly run out of volatiles and water once you get up to t2 and t3 habs.

I wish the game forced you to interact with the other factions a bit more. I realize the scope of this game is huge and there is a lot of stuff to do and worry about, and ultimately it's all about the alien threat, but imo they need to change things up to make the political landscape of earth more pressing and important.
@debott45383 ай бұрын
Agreed. Other human factions are not more than a blockade in the players way. They are there to be shoved aside, not much more interaction, sadly.

Question for those who have played. Would putting points into funding help improve Quill's money issues?
@debott45384 ай бұрын
Yes, it would, but funding is underwhelmingly bad. It provides a trickle of constant income, that pays for itself after ~10 years (on regular game progression). A better income source for most of the game is Spoils. Spoils is more efficient in big countries like the USA or China (because it pays for the amount of CP, and US and CN have six of those), but Spoils should be mittigated by parallel investment into Welfare in order to cancel out the negatives. Later you can also make a lot of money in space. The one place that has yet to be corrupted by captialism.
@drakhoon4 ай бұрын
@@debott4538 A) sounds like a balance issue that should be addressed, B) The best thing quill could do for money then is put at least a few pips in spoils since quill is putting so much into Welfare? The welfare should negate any negative from the spoils?
@debott45384 ай бұрын
@@drakhoon A) Yes, I think Spoils should be nerfed. Perhaps with some more negative side-effects. B) Yes, Welfare lessens the worst side-effects, such as an increase in inequality and sustainability. Another side effect is damage to the government score, which can be countered via Knowledge. Thirdly, spoils drives away public opinion from your faction, which can be countered via Unity.

Please stop supporting AI art. It's hardly the biggest problem in the world but it's methods of gathering training data are still horribly unethical.
@BetaJim224 ай бұрын
I am not entirely booked up on the information gathering sources and mostly asking out of curiosity here but; what is the difference between AI looking at and using art without permission for training purposes and a human looking at the same art from the same source as a reference for their work?
