I really like the format of these videos, no waffle just the facts/details presented clearly. Well done...

Beautifully done. Bear in mind as you age, your steady hands won't necessarily be the same. Fab video

I did a similar job about a month ago. Sold the console on eBay and had the HDMI port somehow get knocked off by the buyer. That clear epoxy stuff never crossed my mind. Don't know if I should use that AND super glue. The solder for the legs wasn't holding the port down.

Than you had Not enough heat, you need like at least 65W direct heat Iron to get that Done or help out with hotair from the bottom.

Great content as usual!! What magnification do you typically use when fine soldering like this?

That silver wire is the same used to separate glass from screens? I cannot find 0.05mm size, only smaller

I made my first HDMI swap this week in a Xbox S also,and ,of course ripped 3 pads. Try the repair the traces with no sucess. Gonna make a 2nd attemp. How wonder why there are lots of videos with series S with ripped pads. Before i make the swap,i practice in a laptop scrap board,and was easy pizza. But the thick board of the Xbox absorves lots of heat,and i pulled the conector too soon. I think the problem is there

You don’t have to replace the grounds. As long as it has some in the circuit it will be fine. Also the anchors are grounds as well so no need to replace grounding pads.
@RetroSix4 ай бұрын
You do. Those grounds are for the shields around each pair. Without a connection at each end of the cable those shields are not functioning. It will work without but not as desired and could get cross talk and glitching
@fireshots10664 ай бұрын
@@RetroSix not quite because if you put your multimeter in continuity mode and touch the grounding pad and the grounding plane where the shield is, it makes continuity to ground. I’ve repaired countless hdmi circuits with every single trace that were completely gone and only have done the pins that mattered and left the grounds that were ripped without any issues. And as for the jumping ground pins over the data pins can cause issues in the future and could potentially blow the ESD ic. Best thing to do in this situation in my opinion is to just scraped a way little bit of the uv mask on the ground plane and just jumped ground pin from there. Less of a risk for the wire looping over to cause a short.

@@fireshots1066 they are not continuity to ground. They will only if a cable is inserted and then it's a floating ground end pin which goes right back to what I said, they won't function right. The loops are no issue they aren't touching and have conformal coating on so can't move. You shouldn't leave them off it's then got no noise immunity on different pairs. It will work for you but a customer with noisy mains or long HDMI running high res image will likely get drop outs
@fireshots10664 ай бұрын
@@RetroSix to each their own, whatever works for you. But from my experience I haven’t had to if there are multiple grounding pads in the hdmi circuit. 🤷🏻♂️ with no interference or static and in that case i usually will check over jumpers to make sure that grounding jumper isn’t touching a data pin or there isn’t a cold solder joint 🫢
