Great Video! I placed my dahlia tubers order last week but they will not ship it until spring. I got cafe au lait, beach ball collection and strawberry ice. Since it’s my first time, I still have to research how to plant tubers. Hope it comes up and produce nice big blooms. Can’t wait!!!!

I’m sorry to hear! I’ve done the same with the tubers and why I don’t always separate them unless they get very overcrowded.

Im trying this for the first time. Im in zone 6b technically dahilas arent hardy in my zone but i have two varieties that i left in the ground over winter just to see and they came up beautifully the past two years. I heard its easy to grow them from seed. Ima gonna try it just for fun! I LOVE your raised beds where did u get them?!

Thank you for this informative video. Quick question from beginning ratios grower: if Ibgriw dahlias of similar height from seed, will the height be a out the same as the original dahlias?
@LearnToGrow1
@LearnToGrow1 Жыл бұрын
Hi you’re welcome! Yes, it should be, but ones from seed sometimes don’t bloom till the following year. They will produce a tuber for you though…viable tubers may take 2-3 years to develop that you can save or separate then plant. ☺️ I’m also thinking if they cross with a dwarf variant then the height may differ.

Wow! Those are beautiful! When would you plant the seeds in the flower bed in zone 7?
@LearnToGrow1
@LearnToGrow1 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary, I’d wait to sow the seeds outdoors about a week before your last spring frost. You can also start them indoors 6 weeks before your last frost date.

Hello, do you have to leave the seed pods on the plant until they are brown and dry, or can you cut them off sooner (when the flower is dead) and leave in a vase to continue seed development? Thanks.
@LearnToGrow1
@LearnToGrow1 10 ай бұрын
Hi! I leave them on till they dry so the seeds develop or mature completely. You can check and open one up to see if the seeds are dark brown/black and if they are you can let the buds dry indoors.

Do dwarf dahlias get taller each year or do they remain small
@LearnToGrow1
@LearnToGrow1 13 күн бұрын
Hi they usually stay small, but if the flowers cross pollinate with another variety, the seeds may breed differently from the mother plant.

Hi, I am in UK. Once I have collected the seeds at the end of summer when do I plant them? And how many seeds do I plant per pot? (Small plant pot). Thank you.
@LearnToGrow1
@LearnToGrow1 11 ай бұрын
Hi! Dahlia is frost-sensitive and should be planted outside after your last spring frost date or start the seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before that date. Make sure to harden off the seedlings before planting out if you start them inside. I use a 3-inch nursery pot plant with 2 seeds in each and select the healthiest one after they get their first set of true leaves. You can also keep all of them separate at this stage so they don't get root-bound and compete for water and nutrients. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

It’s been very wet here as well. You can put the pods to dry in the warmest room with a fan. Just make sure there’s good air circulation. ☺️

When planting the seeds in spring do they produce flowers in summer or do you have to wait 2 yrs?
@LearnToGrow1
@LearnToGrow1 10 ай бұрын
Hi! Yes they will flower the first season given the right growing conditions in full sun and well draining fertile soil. The second year is usually more productive.

Can you cut them and hang dry upside down or is best to let them dry completely on the plant?
@LearnToGrow1
@LearnToGrow1 Жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, It’s best to allow them to dry on the plant completely so they seeds mature and develop properly. I usually harvest the seed heads 4-6 weeks before our first frost date.

Hi yes you can try in late March to winter sow them, but if you anticipate a late frost in spring, make sure to cover them up with a horticultural fleece if sown directly in the ground as they are frost tender.
