I've heard you generally need a minimum of $120k of super funds to start a smsf, is that correct? Can I move my $50k of super into a trust fund in a smsf? And if it's in a private trust, can I avoid the accounting requirements of the ato? Assuming I am capable of managing it myself.

No minimum amount required. ASIC says you need more about $200k-300k combined for it to be worth the costs. Best to speak to a financial planner or accountant but I doubt you can move the investments into a private fund

You dont need a buyers agent, those costs can be saved by doing your own work
