When and when not to use SPLIT - and how to do it.

Great videos! I'm trying to use split to receive voice and send cw. I can manage to save one (80m) to memory, but when I try to save another (40M) to memory, it changes the memory offset on 80m. Don't know why!!!

I’m not sure either. It may be that it keeps the split separately and only the freqs go into memory…

@@ND3N Thank you for the reply! p 109 of 991A manual describes Split Memory - so it should work!!! Can't find any on-line information. I can save ONE anyway! 🤔

Fb Tom! I’ve only seen up 1 on Cw unless it’s a dxpedition. Then it’s only up. Could be from 0-5k up. Those are fun ones! I think ssb is up 3 to 6? I enjoy working split frequency bc it’s so easy on the yaesu.

Because you are taking up additional bandwidth that others could be using. During contests the band are very congested and working split isn’t really feasible.

I like your videos, but this one I don't understand why split is used. Rather than jumping into details how to do split, I would have preferred an early explanation what it is and why this is done. You allude to it around 9:00 but you don't make the "why" explicit. 73.

I apologize. I thought I had made it clear, but that's why we have this section. Simply, while you might not be using split, if the station you're trying to work is using split, you're going to need to know how to make it happen. This was the primary reason for the video. Many times, DX stations, especially those in "Rare" DX (like uninhabited pacific islands) will use split to spread out the people calling them. The same can happen during a POTA activation, especially if its a "Rare" park. hope this helps - 73 de Tom, ND3N
