Gage R&R is pretty simple to do. And while it may require some resources, you'll find that it requires a lot less energy than those endless discussions about the quality of some measurement device or that your operators supposedly cannot do some analysis.
When people in your organisation keep casting doubt on the quality of a measurement - organise a gauge R&R study. It is the golden standard to put a number to the quality of your measurement system, it can objectively show whether your operators can perform the tests as well as your quality department and if perhaps you'll need to increase sample size to deal with poor repeatability.
