What I really like about Maomao is how realistically she is written as a character that is smart. While she is indeed very smart and insightful, it's only when involving poison and situational problems which she gained from her adoptive father and mostly from experience living in a rural district always full of crimes. However, when tasked to take a basic test that is outside her usual things she basically went and dropped hard showing us that she has her flaws and that she's only good at things that she really likes or are within her expertise, which I find very relatable.

Fun fact it got ten place In Japanese poll for the series they most wants to be animated with other series’s being: spy x family, ace age, chainsaw man and oshi no ko to name a few. I read the manga since before the poll and can say it will be great series

For anyone is interested Kusiriya no hitorigoto is originally a web novel published as a light novel and also adapted into two mangas published in bx and gx magazines. Light novel has currently 13 volumes. Also for anyone wondering it has c-drama vibes but story doesn't go the very c-drama way. The main focus is not really romance even though it is Labelled as one of the themes. I hope you guys give it a try and don't think it's just a stripped of version of c-drama/k-dramas because they story goes a very very different route.

Kusuriya no Hitorigoto has an 8.3 rating on Anilist and 8.4 on My anime list and personally as a long time fan I have not once seen a hater and the general consensus is that it's an incredible good anime so I really wouldn't call it underrated (also it has very good sales in Japan)

Seriously, this one is a gem, with so much content. I am up to date with the manga, which covers only a bit more than three volumes of the light novel and there are currently 11 volumes out. The story is absolutely fantastic and I love Mao Mao and the mysteries are intriguing. Also nice is that there is a story with Imperial palace drama without the protagonist being a member of the harem

In the series, she's actually really not that smart. In the LN, Maomao is described by the author in an issue in the series as follows: She not of high intelligence, she just cares more about some things than others. I like that the author doesn't praise her original character so much and describes her in modestly. That's why I like to read the LN of a series , these little words of the author may be lost in LNs which receive manga or anime adaptations. What comes to my mind is that Ayanokoji (described by the author as a superior creature or something..which is annoying) is actually not very smart and the characters around him are designed as bunch of sluts. The injustice done by the author can be this high level...but in KnH nope.

She's kinda remind me of Sherlock Holmes actually. High interest for studies related to her job. Yet know practically nothing outside of that (Holmes actually doesn't care about whether the sun rotates the earth or vice versa since it doesn't matter for him) Maomao failed the test because she had no interest in history and other subjects, she eventually passed when forced to memorized by granny (with rattan in hand) and actually in top score

Love how you describe " characters around ayanokoji designed as bunch of sluts" but when you realized this kind of stories always end up as most popular and well receiving one since they target male Fandom besides a perfect strong cool boy edgy but still good at everything without efforts all the girls dying over him is something always demanded by self inserted kind of fans and characters with sob sob backstory + loyal dog to mc is easily becomes the fan fav but great when certain fans can point the flaws of these kind of stories.

The Apothecary Diaries is one of those rare gems that works in every regard and I'm so glad it's getting the adaptation it deserves! I can't wait to watch it. MaoMao is an excellent protagonist and the series handles its serious subject matter with proper tact.

I really love Mao Mao and thanks for making shorts about this series! When I saw the first book in the library I remembered the short and borrowed it and absolutely love it! Mao Mao is one of my favourite characters of all time and the fact that it's set in China is a really cool concept for a japanese manga/anime and loved EVERYTHING! The manga is so good and will definitely try out the anime!

It's kinda funny that nowadays, manga editorial teams seem to love putting good female oriented stories to Seinen or Shonen. I would have thought series like Skip and Loafer is a shojo until I look it up myself.

Reminds me of the kdrama called 'Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist' which is the same genre but the male is the main character with a female sidekick and they're solving all these medical mysteries which leads to them solving the mystery behind the previous king's death. If you like kdramas you could watch that one while you wait. It was definitely a good one!⚡️ I'm seriously also waiting for this anime to come out!✊️

It is not seinen. Just published in seinen series it was originally novel. It is like calling cowboy Bebop shoujo because it was published in shoujo magazine despite being original animated
