Reputation´s reception is truly bizarre to me. Right after it´s release people hated it and called it inauthentic, then once Reputation Tour kicked of people started really vibe with Dark Taylor and then when bright and colorful Lover was released people were craving for Dark Taylor´s return. Reputation aged actually pretty well, it´s thought off as one of Taylor´s best eras, once Taylor´s Versions project was announced Reputation immediately was one of most anticipated re-recordings and even on The Eras Tour the Rep Set is one of most hyped out parts of the whole show. What i love and respect about Taylor is that she never abandoned her dark persona completely and she kept including it in all her albums since Reputation.

Circus by Britney was marketed this way. I swear all of the promotional material for this album at the time was "Britney is BACK and BETTER THAN EVER!!!" as her team did everything in their power to erase the stench of 2007 off of her. They made Circus out to be the return of 2001 Britney Spears and made it seem like it was going to be nothing like Blackout and instead was gonna be this super bright bubblegum pop record, even though it really wasn't that outside of the singles. You go back and listen to the album and it's actually really weird and even kinda sad at spots. But the image makeover worked like a charm and people got the "Britney they grew up with" back...at least as far as they knew

I would say Pink Friday 2 course corrected Nicki. Queen was a HEAVY rap album where she completely ditched the color pink that she was known for since the beginning of her career and she felt like she had something to prove but Pink Friday 2 was a perfect blend of pink, girly, pop aesthetics and hard hitting bars and rap that we all knew her for.

Lady Gaga's "Joanne" and Kelly Clarkson's "My December" are also really good examples where they changed their image dramatically for one album, but then went back to the same stuff and found better commercial success. I thought the villain aesthetic in reputation and the white feminist political aesthetic in lover was two over corrections gone wrong. I definitely get try hard energy from both. like 'oh you want me to be the villain' here is an entire album with that aesthetic and then she got comments about her silence on political issues and she said "here damn that's as far as i'll go" while making majority of that album's aesthetic on that. Her best work comes from when she's not trying to morph herself into what the public wants... 1989,folklore. its sad she can't see that

The taylor swift changes are quite drastic and i never understood why people say she has no eras when it's quite clear she's had 5 big changes, the original country girl, synth pop girl, villain, bubblegum princess, folklore superstar. I'm so glad Kylie didn't give up music, i think after the intimate & live concerts she didn't feel like leaving because she started work on a new project but then deconstruction folded and she signed with Parlophone in 1999, the demo for Butterfly was recorded in 1999

I disagree Taylor swift eras are not all that different. Yes each era is different but i wouldn’t say it’s drastic. When you look at Rihanna’s catalog now each era was DRASTIC. Taylor Switt albums don’t feel like eras they feel like chapters to her life. Which is okay and it’s fitting considering that she’s a storyteller first. The way y’all give Taylor credit for things that have been executed way better by other pop stars. Like she got this grip on you ima need yall to release free.

Yeah she's change drastically but Madonna, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears are the perfect example. and yes Taylor deserve to give a credit. Each of her eras are different yet feels like a chapter of her life because she's a singer/songwriter. It's evident that every era she made, she change her sound and her aesthetic. Reputation era had made drastic comeback and considered as one of the best comeback. It's not important if other artists did better than her because her comeback made mark on pop culture and that makes her era more iconic. Y'all just discrediting Taylor's impact in music industry.

@@jiruld what? What is yall obsession with constantly discrediting and overlooking the contributions that black pop stars made to pop music? Good Girl Gone Bad & Unapologetic made huge impact as well. For starters Good Girl Gone bad is one of the best selling pop eras of all time and Unapologetic is one of the most influential albums of the 2012. It literally popularized pop stars blending rap/trap into their music which is a trend STILL being seen till this day by acts such as (Ariana, Sabrina, Chloe & Normani) Also Talk That Talk by Rihanna had We Found Love which is the EDM song that CHANGED the way POP EDM sounded for 5 years. Rihanna is and will always be the perfect example of an artist who creates eras.

Jennifer Lopez also started to lose her prominence in the music when she decided to go more ballad, jazz and funk with records as This Is Me...Then, Rebirth and Como Ama Una Mujer, nowhere near close to the global success of her first 2 euro-pop infused records On The 6 and JLo (1999 & 2001). She tried to redeem herself and get back on the track of her first 2 albums with 2007's Brave, but it wasn't until 2011's Love? when she re-gained her rightful place on the global dance club charts, following more entertaining and euro-electro-pop vibe of her debut two albums. All the singles from Love?- On The Floor, I'm Into You and Papi- became the notable hits of 2011 and JLo was named by Billboard the biggest musical comeback of 2011. Not being quite satisfied with the Love? results, she decided to benefit from that era as much as she could so for the next pair of years she had been releasing heavily energetic latino-dance infused songs with most of them gaining a lot of KZbin views, such as Dance Again, Goin' In, Follow The Leader, Ain't Your Mama, We Are One (Ole Ola) (all of them gained +500 million views on KZbin), Goin' In, Live It Up, Booty, El Anillo (+200 million views). Unfortunately, her luck on the charts came to an end after her collaboration with Cardi B on the song "Dinero" in 2018 which tends to be the last song that managed to breakthrough into Billboard Hot 100 list. Nevertheless, the course-correction of JLo in her early 40s made it possible for her to successfully go with her music career for the entire 2010s...unitl the SuperBowl happened, and people in large part lost totally interest in her music career, leading to the nightmare of her last studio album This Is Me...Now- where she came back on the road that cost her in the 2000s almost the expulsion from the musical career. Bad move, JLo. Worth noting that Jennifer Lopez's course-correction in 2011 helped her to soldify her place as one of the must successful female singers on US Dance Club charts- she has alltogether 18 hits #1 on the charts, starting from 2007's Brave she peaked with singles: Do It Well, Hold It Don't Drop It, Louboutins, Fresh Out The Oven, On The Floor, I'm Into You, Papi, Dance Again, Goin' In, Live It Up, First Love, Booty, Medicine and Baila Conmigo. If it ain't iconic for y'all then I don't know what is.

@@karinasnooodles_ we in Eastern Europe actually respect Jennifer Lopez a lot and do not give in into this whole hate train on her and pathetic rumours that Ashanti or Christina Millan sang all her songs (Ashanti was a background in JLo's two songs choruses only in 2001, whereas Christina gave her voice in the chorus of only one Lopez's song). Christina Millan herself stood decisively in the defense of JLo against these all accusations claiming that when Britney and Michael Jackson used heavily background voices no one ever said a thing. Christina herself uses at times background voices in her songs and she says that most artists do to make their songs feel better and make them complete. She doesn't inderstand the whole selective hate on Lopez. Neither do I, especially that Lopez really isn't the rudes nor the shadied dova out there, we all have in mind few big names but somehow people allow them to be so, but only not to JLo- most of her bad behaviours are only empty words with no video proof no nothing. When you think about it people adore women beaters or women abusers in music and sport industry and ignore it about them idealising the shit out of them but cancel the shit out of 55 years old Lopez for having background voices in some of her songs ignoring totally that big part of industry does that...what is wrong with people? I think that when people adore openly satanic/illuminati artists and women beaters but hate on one woman so much (no, her career wasn't superficially crafted for her to destroy Mariah Carey, lambs are so egocentric not everything revolves around Mariah, even if Mottola had hidden intention by giving Lopez record deal to sabotage Carey projects, Lopez in fact didnt need him neither she needed Diddy- she had other record labels interested in her, she actually had it promised in another record label since the early 90s to record an album had she only be ready, besides before Selena she already was playing in movies with Jack Nicholson, Robbie Williams, Woody Harrelson and was offered the roles with Tom Cruise or in The Green Mile)...people really want so much to hate on her, they repeat all the time the same hypocritic untrue shit all around without even thinking logically and analysing the source of all these lies going on her. jLo is her own source of success, no one else did that for her. Unfortunately, lies that everyone bekieve in eventually become the truth...
