To anyone else looking for context: The dude's name is Farhan Jami. He had a thing for a Twitch streamer and was spending money on her, but learned she had a boyfriend. He flew from NY to OH to set the car on fire as a means of revenge. He plead guilty to possessing an unregistered incendiary device and was sentenced to 46 months in prison.

In the 1990's, someone tried to break into our house in the burbs but I heard them and turned on the light and called the cops, and when they arrived, there was a guy parked outside our hedge who they claimed was supposedly sleeping and they claimed he wasn't involved, but nobody had ever slept outside our hedge in a car in all the years we lived there. They also said he was drunk so that's okay too? It was goddamned crazy. When I came out in the morning, the car was still there but the guy was gone. I had to go to work and when I came home the car was gone. The cops must have been complete incompetent retards, or maybe they didn't feel like doing paperwork. I was sure po'd at them.

Very suspicious answer. If somebody told you that there was a receipt in some random bag that you knew nothing about, would you be surprised and ask "what receipt?" Making a show about not knowing about it was a tell. He didn't fall for the cop's standard patter about how telling the truth would somehow make things "easier" for him, which makes me think this wasn't his first encounter with the law.

Farhan Jami pled guilty and is currently serving 3+ yrs in prison. He traveled from NY to OH to commit an act of revenge against a Twitch streamer. On her YT channel (justfoxii) she acknowledged he donated $2k to her Twitch account, but said they never privately communicated, and his claims of feeling “jilted” are crazy. The fire destroyed her car and damaged part of her house. She was out of town when it happened but her mother (seen in video) and pets were there. As an aside, I was surprised the officer didn’t ask for the address of the friend he claimed to be visiting. When the officer asked, “Where does your friend live?” the guy gave a vague reply and I wondered why the officer didn’t press for an actual location.

There’s this thing called “the legal system,” and people called “lawyers” who help both sides of the case. The lawyer who helps the “defendant” (the person who gets charged) holds prosecution to an airtight standard, and makes sure the defendant is not convicted of a specific charge without 100% accurate testimony and evidence. When you see someone end their case with a conviction for something other than their initial charge, it means their lawyer did a good job, and it also means the his lawyer and the prosecuting attorney’s office came to an agreement.

As a defense attorney I can tell you that if this man had asserted his right to Simply leave before answering any questions or allowing any search of his vehicle, he never would have been caught. But it's funny to me that somebody like him would go to the trouble of purchasing a mask and gloves and all of these other things yet didn't have the mental capacity to leave the scene after committing the crime. He could have driven two more miles and he would have been fine

Exactly, he wasn't just "calm" and open to discussion with the cops. If you hear a crime happened minutes away from you, shouldn't you be concerned if someone was hurt? He asked confirmation of the act and how it could be done, never asked about people or if the fire was also extinguished. A good hint for lack of sympathy, i think. Also, in a way he doesn't acknowledge he can be a suspect. And the best part of his lie is that he is traveling to a friend with no baggage.
