I genuinely want to know what kind of help we're actually talking about. Like, sure, he eluded and is going to catch a felonious charge for that. He did do that. They're not going to help him by getting him a real honest-to-God home because he's sleeping in his car, dude They're not going to help him by taking him to the hospital. They're going to charge him money that he likely doesn't have and can't pay for with the medical attention he'd receive because of his own actions leading to the broken arm. They're not going to help him find gainful employment. That's not their job. They charged him and the recidivism is because he ran from them instead of stopping. That man will likely die in the streets, alone, with no car, no house, no loved ones because of cascading failures in our community. Like... Tell me with some kind of quantitative answer: How'd they help him? How could you or I have helped him?

First group of cops did an OUTSTANDING job trying to get the man in mental health crisis out of the car as gently as possible. Great communication, good plans, making one person the communicator with the subject; wish they had a ballistic shield for that maneuver to the back window of the van, but that's probably a funding issue, and they pulled it off pretty well. They should all be acknowledged for their efforts and what seemed to be genuine empathy for the man. If we dog the cops when they f*ck up, which we absolutely should do, we should also give them due props for any of the positive things they do for folks in the community and for being examples that other officers can follow to build a new blue wall for good.

That first one had very professional and well trained officers in it. They didn't put themselves in danger or have to use excessive force. I was impressed that they double cuffed him to avoid putting excessive strain on his injured arm. Most body cams show officers not taking the time to do that until the person is begging and nearly in tears.
@mommy2libras3 ай бұрын
Circumstances are also not the same in every case. Here, the guy did evade police but wasn't running through town at high speeds, putting everyone around him in danger. I think the one officer also already knew who the guy was, knew him to be nonviolent previously, etc. And plenty of officers were able to respond to the scene. That's a lot different than having to chase someone they have no experience with through populated areas at high speeds and then drag them from the vehicle because they don't know what this person is capable of, if they might have a weapon, and can't give them time to visibly dig around in their vehicle. Or if they do get out, they become resistant and/or combative. And getting them subdued as quickly as possible isn't "excessive force". It's hilarious that people are so out of touch with human behavior that they seem to believe if these people were just treated nicely from the beginning that it would go fine most of the time, especially when they've watched that exact scenario NOT play out and the person become resistant or combative no matter how they're approached. At that point, getting them subdued or secured, even if it means taking the little jerk to the ground, as quickly as possible actually saves them and the officers from further, and possibly much worse, injury a few minutes later. Or maybe they should continue to just wrestle with them gently- so as not to use "excessive force"- until someone ends up shot. Possibly even the suspect grabbing the weapon, shooting the officer and then going out into the world with that weapon to hurt others.

I hope Andrew is having a more peaceful time right now. Not exactly sure what was happening with him but I hope is doing better. I loved the sympathy in the officers voices and how they treated him in the end. At every opportunity they took nonlethal actions even though they had no idea what could happen (I feel like a spooked cop can be more dangerous) and they talked him through it. Nothing is perfect and I’m sure things could have happened differently but I hope more departments are like this.

First guy and Cops get nothing but love from me. That is what police are supposed to be. The people that help protect others. Second guy looks like he needs some real help too. Videos like these should go just as viral as those that show cops going too far.

It really depends on the department. Some HWY patrol units are running a lot more expensive tech, which does scan plates instantly. But others aren't as equipped/don't have proper protocols in place to scan plates like that
