I did not know people liked binding books for "fun." Looks like a lot of work. But if you enjoy it, then good for you!

Funny enough, they do! There’s a whole bunch of us looking for punishment. 😂jk. But in all seriousness, hobbies are a funny and I’m always amazed by the wild variety of hobbies that are out there. This is common, boarder line vanilla by comparison. Maybe we have the pandemic to thank for that. But thanks for watching and for all the support!

I'm sorry the book didn't turn out the way you wanted, Tara. The final result looked pretty good to me, I understand why you didn't want to gift that one, I'm glad you kept it. Look at it this way, you'll know what not to do. Publishers make mistakes too. I once bought a book that was remaindered, it was one of George RR Martin's Wild Card series. Got the book home and the first signature pages were for a completely different book. Got George to sign it, still looking for the other author.

What a thoughtful gift to give a personally bound book to someone. And wow, that's lot of time, effort, and tools to do it! I felt your pain when it didn't turn out. I love crafting, but I'm terrible at anything that requires precise measurements. I've totally done the whole denial thing of "huh, they don't look like they'll fit together, but I'm sure I can fix it by doing x, y, and z" and then going, "huh, that was a dumb idea. I made it worse" 😰 I'm sure your next attempt will be awesome, and hope you enjoy the pottery you get in return. Thanks for sharing the process and the very real struggles with us.

I definitely didn’t come into this world with a skill for precision but I’m so glad I picked up this hobby because I’m gaining it. It’s a fun gift to give. Rebinds are what I normally give as gifts and they always go over well.

Oh, no! I have repaired book covers and replaced book spines in my work as a school librarian, but never completely bound a book. That is a lot of work, and I did not laugh at your mistake! Totally understand the need to cry. But I'm sure that every bookbinder has made a mistake like that early on in their training, and I hope you don't beat yourself up over it. You will be able to compare your later work to it, see how far you've come as a hobby bookbinder, and feel good about your skill!

Also, bone folders are called that because they used to be carved from animal bone. I have a vintage one that is made from real bone, probably a cow's leg bone, judging from its size. It is really good for putting adhesive book covers on large books.

Book binding is always nerve wrecking :) the easiest way to print signatures btw. is with word because this one has options to print a book and does it right (you can even chose how many pages per signature). Acrobat and indesign in the other hand can do booklets, but they want to stack all the 300something pages in one booklet, so you have to make batches of 16 (or 32) pages manually :) If you get behind why one endpaper is so far away form where it should be, please tell us about it :D I made a book and everything should have been okay, but i ran into exactly that :/ the only way it didn't happen was with a curved spine so i screwed up on the other ones. don't know where tho ...
@NatalieandTara7 ай бұрын
Hahahaha I will definitely keep you posted on the end pages! Tried the Word route but for some reason mine didn't have this option. No clue why. Acrobat was a headache and I found the website before I even thought to indesign. Luckily this sight also lets you pick how many pages for the signatures along with a lot of other bells and whistles, all totally free.
@lennoxwilliamsart73877 ай бұрын
@@NatalieandTara Are you on Mac? I got the office 365 version on windows, but it could also depend on the printer driver (i think you need to have one that can do doublesided automatically) Not gonna lie, I hated myself for trying to do it right and with indesign (i had to design a book for my semester project). Looked at that website and it's great! Thank you! :D

I don't expect you to always be the same, but maybe tell your fans a little more. I want more of the "try stuff" like the unicycle. I don't like that you don't even make vids together anymore. I know life changes and you are in different states. I don't want this channel to fail, but I think it is. I want to hug you and love you, but I am half a continent away. I can't fix what is wrong. I CAN still love both of you SOOOO MUCH! That has not changed since the day I found you on Townsend! I love you, I love Jon. Not going to change.

man, totally hear. I think what you’re trying to denote it that the high octane just isn’t there (especially when we’re on our own doing something as boring as making a book). And I miss many of things from the way it used to be too. But what I can say is a lot of what you don’t see on the channel is happening behind the scenes. Sometimes you have to pull inward in order to grow further. Regroup. The champion on. All this to say, and speaking for myself, thank you so much for watching us all these years and for your support. We might not evolve in quite the way you’d expect, life has been challenging and we’ve had to make choices. BUT we’re building careers that look like they have a chance at far exceed or wildest dreams if we just quietly keep working hard. Cheers! tara
