For the ones that rely on speed to determine the order, In the event of a speed tie, is it a coin flip?

If you have lower IVs (in VGC at lvl 50, there are some IVs that accomplish the same stat) you always loose the coin flip

In Gen III, it wasnt the fastest Pokémon who got hit by sandstorm first, one team got it first in a coinflip at the start of battle Showdown has a mod that does it by speed though

If you're doing an explosion team, I'd suggest saving a kingambit for your last slot. Also, have some non-normal exploding moves for ghosts.

8:14 for perish song, TR won't give you the win if you don't have the slowest mon, it gives you the win if you do have the fastest mon, if the opponent has the slowest and fastest mons on the field, TR won't help

@@skillhunter4804 that’s the point. You CAN use trick room if you weren’t going to win. If the opponent has the fastest and slowest mon on the field then you’re screwed though either way.

In summary: Self-KO Moves- Target wins Other Recoil Moves/Abilities/etc- Attacker wins Revenge Moves/Abilities (Aftermath, etc)- Attacker wins Passive Damage (same source)- Slowest mon wins Passive Damage (different sources)- depends on source (preset order) Edit: Apparently Rough Skin/Iron Barbs bucks the trend and causes the Attacker to lose.

I remember battling my friend on Platinum many years ago, and it was both our last Pokémon, I had an Infernape and he had a low level Sceptile (I don't remember why it was so low level, but it was) and I used Flare Blitz to take it down in a draw just because I thought it would be funny cuz there was no way he could've taken me down with it, and I swear it ended in a tie, but I do wonder if that's a Mandela effect thing. I'm pretty sure I still have that battle saved on the Vs. Recorder, I would just have to find my copy of Platinum lmao

I had a tie happen to me and I lost still so I’m going to ask why? Here’s my scenario. I have a Mega Blaziken (using speed boost) VS a Mega Salamence (who used nothing but roost and dragon dance), I use flare blitz, then I K.O the Salamence, then Blaziken fainted to recoil. So how/why did I loose that fight?

I love battles that end with both final Pokémon result in a Double KO, i just hate how the main games have so many waya too still cause a Winner, where it honestly would make sense to conclude it as a Tie. Now, in Battle Revolution, a Battle can conclude in a Tie which i find awesome. I don't remember the set up and i wasn't trying to Tie, but in the Crystal Colosseum i believe, i remember the battle ending, with both last Pokémon fainted on the sane turn, and then Announcer had completely different dialogue. Something like, "This battle ended in a Tie. As per the rules of this Stadium, both Trainers will have 1 more battle." I really hope i didn't fever dream this.

I think there's a couple mistakes here. The more major one is that iron bars and rough skin (since gen 4) actually kill the attacker before the defending Pokémon dies, meaning the defending Pokémon would win. This used to be the case with Rocky Helmet as well but got changed in version 1.1 of Sun and Moon (which feels very specific), so now the defending Pokémon dies first. A more minor thing is that end of turn effects worked weirdly in gen 3 (and I assume in gen 2 as well), with the majority of end of turn effects depending on who is player 1 (i.e., whoever challenged the other person). In gen 3 link battles sandstorm hits the Pokémon of player 1 first. In the cartridge this is also the way to determine which Pokémon switch-in first (which means, for example, that if two Pokémon with intimidate get sent out turn 1, only Player 1's Pokémon get intimidated). This was implemented for some time in a simulator (either Showdown or its predecessor, Pokémon online), but people didn't like that it mattered so much who sent the challenge so it was actually changed to match modern mechanics.
