I have never been able to afford going to Hawaii. But if I was rich I would already be there and I would be doing all I could to help. I feel really sad about what happened to everyone, especially the people who have lost family. I lost my husband and youngest son during the plandemic but at least I still had a house to sit in. I can’t imagine how impossible it would be to lose people you love and everything else all at once. It’s heart breaking. You are in my prayers and I’m sending what I can, I just wish I could do/send more.

I've never been able to afford a Hawaii vacation. I went anyway. Seven winters for me on the Big Island so far. From two to Four months I was homeless there. Each winter I would land in Kona and take the bus to Walmart. Buy a bike and tent. Maybe not the best plan but I live in rural Alaska. Hawaii cost me less than staying home over the winter.

Mahalo! Seriously . Just bring some extra love. Otherwise, the rest of us islanders can't afford to keep helping our Ohana (families)either, or pay our rent. Everyone is affected, from Lahaina and all the way to Hana ! Unfortunately, that beautiful and sacred town, is suffering from lack of tourism, which helped feeding thier families too. Unfortunately !!!! Maui, Hawaii in general, has relied of tourism (70+%of income and 80%imported food, gas, etc) Perfect Storm now. So YES, Spend like there no tomorrow (Never know),and do all the things you wish done before,. Take home, fun ,excitement and memories forever . Maui is such an enchanting place of dreams, but, things change. And you can even volunteer with practice, hungryheroeshawaii, to add to your experience. Much Aloha, brings friends!🤙

Excellent presentation Jerry... the question you present is really a Catch-22, personally I wouldn't visit this soon as I regard the "wild-fire" as a monumental crime scene that wasn't just "Climate Change" in any shape or form! Even if I was visiting another Hawaiian island I'd still have the Maui Massacre on my mind, and I suspect those responsible for it will never be brought to justice, just like all the other land-grabbers going back to America's original illegal take-over of Hawaii. Like 9/11, it's the premeditation and cover-up of the crime that betrays it, unfortunately most people will not be able to process that and simply be distracted in this case by the big Maui tourist discount deals and the money it will bring back. No doubt all the tourists will return in droves, it'll be business as usual... But for the Maui people, those that witnessed the devastation firsthand, those that witnessed the insane directives from their own police and mayor, those that know the true death toll figures, for them it will be like remembering the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor... It took 40 years for the truth to come out about that so-called "sneak attack", a day of infamy that FDR and the US government did everything possible to make it happen, an excuse to get America into WWII... well this time they'd have you believe it was a "Climate Change" sneak attack on Lahaina, and the rallying cry is bring on the tourists and let's party! Jerry all your videos are very professional and you have a warm and sincere personality, I wish you and all the survivors on the island the very best amidst all this insanity!

Nice video. I was just there last weekend. (9/15-9/18) We stayed at a condo at the Polo Beach club in Walilea/Kihei. We went on a dinner cruise the first night. It was nice and relaxing with a breeze on the water. Did a Laʻau, the second night, Shopping at Shops At Wailea, Road to Hana, (had lunch at Mama's Fish house) enjoyed the beach, the weather was great. It was nice to take a weekend off from work and enjoy Hawaii. We go to Maui every September. Only stayed for a long weekend but it was enjoyable. We were respectable to the locals, tipped well and lived Aloha.

I have to agree. Went to Maui and Kauai 20 years ago and loved it. I was in Maui with my family a couple of months ago on the West side. Our last day there is when the fire happened, but leaving that aside: Maui has become over-developed and over-run by tourists. This has negatively affected just about very aspect of Maui that made it special. The local population and their negative attitude toward visitors. The local environment has been transformed from a lush topical landscape to a desert like over developed sprawl. Even access to the beaches and other places of interest has been overrun and over crowded. Doing the road to Hana now is pointless because the entire road is dotted with no parking signs and homemade signs that basically say go away. You can't even stop for a moment and take a photo, they have made it illegal. I am not condemning the local people anyway here, in fact, I understand why they feel the way they do about visitors. What I am saying is if you are going to spend your money to go somewhere on vacation then go someplace where you are welcomed, wanted, and appreciated. The people of Maui and I suspect the other islands need to figure out what they want. Obviously things have gone in the wrong direction over the last 20 years. Perhaps the disaster will be an inflection point that allow them to correct course and make a future that is better for them.

sadly, I've looked at taxes and fees being added to lodging on Maui - some places charge about 48% in tax and fees over the advertised price of the room ... and then they tack on a cleaning fee. I've already made a donation to HCF to help the victims of the Lahaina fires. I don't know if I'll ever to return to my beloved Maui given the taxes and fees being levied on tourists.

Thanks for your clear and objective reporting and sharing your own opinion. What i ask myself is, which sane human being would want to "vacation" next to a toxic disaster zone with the people serving you grieving but having to smile and endure the "well meaning empathy and charity" of strangers? That is INsane! I will continue to pray for the people of Hawaii, Maui and Lahaina. May they receive all the assistance they need (expressed in their own voice!) and deserve during such a time as we're in. One thing though is clear: That assistance ain't come from "the government" who's front actors and actresses are demonstrating nothing but contrary interests. #agenda2030 #dumbcities #paradisegrab #crimesagainsthumanity

Maui is the second largest island in Hawaii.. the fire in Lahaina was 5 square miles, the rest of the island is fine, yes it’s absolutely devastating what happened to Lahaina, we have several of friends that lost everything, but you need to know how Maui and the islands work, the state is based on 80% tourism. Not only did did our ohana Lose everything in the fire, now they are desperate to work as they are barely getting any financial aid.. 17 of my friends lost their houses, cars, jobs, pets, 6 friends of mine died.. funeral after funeral and they are forced to work and not grieve. It’s disgusting. So since the state and government isn’t helping. It’s locals from other islands bringing in food and water. They have that. But now they need to make money. Maui is barely surviving and getting back after covid. Now this. So everyone, stop bitching, if you have the money and can afford a trip to paradise, you will be helping out more than you know! And animal lovers please help at the humane society. Mahalo.

Even those of us who live there. And we live a lot closer to a toxic disaster zone created by G.E. .And people need to work. I had to after my husband died after a couple of weeks. . Same for most people who go through a natural disaster too. And I doubt those who live there can afford to not work for months whether they are grieving or not. People visiting just have to be respectful.

My biggest concern is hostility. The people are angry there as they should be about what happened. I don't think communication has worked well for them to understand what's been going on. I've done everything to encourage those strong enough to document they're experiences during and after the fire. It's needed evidence. I've done everything I could to jump over HI State Government asking members of the Oversight Committee to investigate. Maybe they were planning on it, but it sure felt good for all of us trying when they announced they would investigate, escalated it to a National Disaster and provide oversight the money goes to the HI people. Best guess about the money is Biden may have commingled HI funding with Ukraine? That has not been formally announced, it's frustrating comments made by the Committee that things are being put into it that don't belong and people in HI asking what Ukraine has to do with their fire. God bless the Lahaina people I sincerely hope our Federal Government doesn't let them down. I think corrupt individuals have been screwing HI for a long time thinking the distance from the mainland and Washington DC made them untouchable. If it helps, this Federal Oversight Committee is the best possible chance HI has for justice. The committee hearings work like a deposition. It's testimony under oath. The more numbers of people speaking up from HI citizens the better. After all, that's why they're doing this, it's for the harmed parties, public safety and compliance with oaths of office. The committee decides criminal charges, makes their recommendations to a Grand Jury. The Grand Jury works like the Supreme Court decides and issues indictments. Those persons go trial. Anyone that is not charged doesn't mean therwon't be other discipline and it doesn't mean citizens can't file wrongful death lawsuits in their civil courts. Because this group is Federal the trial results can not be appealed. This investigative branch of our government is as good as it gets without costing the harmed parties money for lawyers. I understand the people don't trust anyone and the wait for the committee to get their arms around the evidence will feel like they have been forgotten. The best thing people can do is keep the people's evidence coming and play the game filling out paperwork to get homes back. The outcome of the investigation will be the start point of what the Federal Government will do for the people. As for us tourists, it doesn't feel right to come and have fun with so many people in pain and dispair. Right now there is a lot of healing going on. It would be helpful if Maui could put a brochure of services and business ready for business. Give to the hotels & airlines to copy and distribute The other thing I strongly suggest is providing tourists with a place to pay their respects. Lahaina captured the World's hearts. The place chosen can collect donations to operate and people are genorous, they will collect extra money. Send evidence to Washington DC. Attention James Comer Director of the Oversight Committee. Us tourists will come back when all of Lahaina feels ready. This was a shocking and traumatic experience. We tourists need feedback that things have stabilized , and the people are strong enough. ❤

What Lahaina is going to need is a "Deep Water Port" with the help of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to help with the rebuilding. To transport the tremendous amount of building materials that's going to be needed for the rebuilding of Lahaina town by trucks tranporting those materials from Kahului would cause such a tremendous congestion of traffic on the pali road, that it just wouldn't be the sensible thing to do. The west side of Maui through the years has witnessed the rapid growth of luxury hotels, luxury condos, and many residential homes being built. I truly hope that the people in government that have the authority to initiate this action, that it’s done soon. Let's face it, the West side has grown tremendously over the years. So now is the time to consider the building of a "Deep Water Port," which is long overdue.

No, they need to build temporary small housing for them until something can be done to get them in more permanent housing. Go look at what Japan did for housing after the tsunami in 2011. That is what they need to do.

Will take years to recover. It’ll be slow death without tourism $. People are NOT allowed to go to Lahaina. Rest of West Maui is Open. They’re ready to die yet.
